"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" screamed Sakura as she came to.
"Think she's awake," said Naruto, lowering his hands away from his ears as he sat across a picnic blanket from Sasuke Uchiha.
"You made me drop a croquette," Sasuke complained, glancing at Sakura.
"You're alive?" asked Sakura, hope blossoming within her.
"Not too quick when you first wake up either," continued Sasuke, taking another croquette with a deft jab of chopsticks.
"Hey! That was mine!" complained Naruto.
"You snooze, you lose," said Sasuke. "Anything can be ninja training, if you're good enough."
"That sounds familiar," said Naruto, settling for a rice ball. "Who said that?"
Sasuke frowned. "That damn Uncle Genma actually. Makes me fight for food. Every time he shows up, the first thing he does is eat everything in sight."
"Probably more ninja training like those engagement cards," said Naruto with a shrug.
"Damn Uncle Genma," muttered Sasuke, having an objection to certain parts of the whole thing.
"I thought I'd killed you," muttered Sakura.
"As if," said Sasuke. "Better than you have tried."
"I patched him up," said Naruto to Sakura. "Don't worry. He's seen worse. Hey, you remember that Rumiko gal last year?"
"The basket of exploding sleep gas eggs?" asked Sasuke. "What an idiot. Glad she was booted out of the Academy."
"Yeah, so you shouldn't worry about it," said Naruto to Sakura. "Most of the girls chasing after him have almost killed him a few times."
"Damn fanclub," muttered Sasuke into a riceball, punctuating that sentence by taking a bite as if the riceball had somehow annoyed him. "Hmmm. Umeboshi."
"I got katsuobushi," said Naruto with a grin.
grummmmmmmmmmmble went Sakura's stomach.
Naruto looked at Sasuke. Sasuke shrugged.
"Kakashi-sensei said we absolutely couldn't feed you, or we'd all fail," said Naruto.
"Oh," said Sakura. "I really picked the wrong time to go on a diet."
"Well, Kakashi-sensei isn't here," said Naruto, getting up with a pair of chopsticks holding a piece of breaded chicken. "Say ahhh."
"No, I want Sasuke to feed me," said Sakura.
"Not happening," said Sasuke. "If I show any of the girls after me any encouragement, I'm not sure I'd survive to avenge my clan. Do you know what it's like to be constantly stalked and occasionally attacked by large numbers of nonsensical girls declaring their love?"
"No, but I've had people throw garbage at me," Naruto said quietly as he just stood there, several expressions flicking over his face.
"It's your own fault, Naruto," said Sasuke finally as he finished chewing on another onigiri. "What kind of ninja wears orange or goes around acting silly just to draw attention to himself?"
"Well..." hedged Naruto. So that was why Sasuke couldn't take him seriously as a rival?
grummmmmmmmmmmble interrupted Sakura's stomach.
"ohhhhhhh," groaned Sakura, hanging her head in defeat.
"Here," said Naruto, holding the piece closer.
Sakura extended her neck slightly to take the piece into her open mouth, chewing slowly as some thoughts were drawing her attention away even in her situation. Then the flavor hit her. "This... this is really good."
"Isn't it?!" asked Naruto. "Hinata's a GREAT cook! HEY!" Naruto slapped a pocket. "What the?!"
"What happened?" asked Sasuke as Naruto took that little booklet out of a pocket.
Sakura licked her lips, considering things as she waited for the next bite. There were things she wanted to do but was rather tied up at the moment, and as most of what she'd heard had come from Sasuke himself was having to consider it as opposed to simply denying it.
"Hey, Hinata's 'social link' thing has gotten another bar next to it and this says it's at level 2," said Naruto, reading from his booklet. "I wonder why."
"Gee," said Sasuke drily. "I wonder."
"Obviously it's because Hinata's relationship with Naruto has gotten stronger," said Kakashi.
"WAGH!" said Sakura, Naruto, and Sasuke.
"Congratulations, you passed," said Kakashi, smiling behind his mask.
