Wiseman faced a dilemna. On one hand he didn't think that this ‘Ranma’ would kill the host to get the ring, but he wasn't so sure about Saturn. She wouldn't want leave her fellow genie to be further corrupted and he knew that the Uranus and Neptune were reputedly ruthless enough to kill a possessed host to save the genie. He didn't know much about Saturn except that she was the Genie of Destruction, so he felt chances were good that she'd do the same. At the very least, she’d find a way to exorcise him.
On the other hand, Ryoga was in too much pain to defend himself. To survive, Wiseman would have to step in and take over. The problem was that, while he’d been suptly corrupting Mars, he hadn’t been able to do anything about the magic of the ring. Full possession would break the connection between Ryoga and Mars.
Wiseman made his choice after only a moment of reflection.
Ryoga’s lack of a sence of direction was annoying, but otherwise he was a very good host - he was strong and had a tendancy to fall into bouts of deliciously dark depression. Wiseman wouldn’t want to loose his meal. Besides, he’d be vulnerable in the moment between seperating and escape as a wraith. Abandoning the host was not an option.
Mars’ eyes grew wide as she watched ‘Ryoga’ suddenly uncurl from his featal position. His aura darkened and settled around him like a cloak of shadows. The stocky boy seemed to stretch into a skeletal figure and Wiseman glared balefully out of her master’s eyes.
The wind blew across the suddenly silent playground as the combatants took stock of this new turn of events. Then the sound of the silver ring slipping from a clawlike hand onto the ground broke the silence. All eyes instinctively dropped onto the ring as it rolled between the combatants. When they looked up again ...
