It had been for a short while normal. Well... as normal as a techie for the Evangelions could be. Then out of nowhere. "All right gentlemen let's move this puppy out A S A P!! This clunker needs to be upgraded before the next Angel attack!" A vaguely familiar voice shouted as a huge black portal opened up and Shinji walked out carrying a pair of glowsticks and waving them frantically as large crane-like robots came in and latched onto all angels of the Eva, picked it up and carried it through with Shinji directing it all before walking through the portal himself and it vanished.
Gendo walked in roughly ten seconds later and stood stock still. Then he screamed in complete and utter fury.
In Shinji's subspace lab. AKA his bedroom.
'Alright then let's get this show on the road!' he thought tapping frantically on a keyboard then moving towards another tapping at it as well and watching the monitor. 'What the? Something's aware in this thing?' he mentally asked as he got far more brainwave readings then he could have predicted. He then scanned them and his eyes widened. A pattern, in perfect revers of what allowed the subspace lab to exist was 'living' for lack of a better term inside the EVA.
His lab was made by creating a subspace pattern in the empty space between atom electrodes allowing him to have a near infinite amount of space for whatever he desired. This was a subspace pattern on the electrical components of the atoms themselves allowing something solid and apparently alive to exist within the Eva both dependently and interdependently at the same time. Living off the Eva and yet away and within at the same time. It was then he made up his mind. He was going to study this! It was amazing! He needed to know more! The secret of intangibility! It was right in front of him!
He quickly re calibrated his equipment and got to work. He was going to pull out this wisp and take a good long hard look at it.
Two hours later
"And now for zee lightning! Igor throw zee svitch!!!" Shinji shouted dramatically and a voice activated interface responded and 'threw the svitch.' Shinji figured that if you're going to be a genius capable of doing the work of the gods, you might as well have some fun with it. So long as no one got hurt at least.
Sure enough energy poured into the Eva reversing the now obviously artificial intangibility of whatever lay living within. Then an alarm flashed and a safety breaker killed the power as a life form was registered in the entry plug. Whooping with excitement he used a lift to bring himself up to the plug and opened it catching sight of a woman inside, he froze, he knew her, all strength in his legs left him and he fell down onto his rear. "Mom?" he asked shakily staring at her.
"Sh-Shinji?" Yui Ikari asked and they stared at each other.
