Mischief Fragment Shippuden: Burning chakra [Episode 227339]

by Kestral

"Ungh," said Naruto.

Jiraiya frowned and broke his silence. "It's the Ninetails' chakra."

"Yeah," grunted Naruto. "I kinda guessed."

"We've got to find a way for you to expel some of it," said Jiraiya. "I don't know what it is about this place - or where we are - but both the seals and the Ninetails' chakra have increased in power. Which isn't supposed to be possible."

"You can tell?" asked Naruto.

"My own talents in such things seem to have been increased too," admitted Jiraiya. "I'm burning off extra by using the water-walking technique as we go along."

"Can't we go back then?" asked Naruto.

"I'm not sure," admitted Jiraiya. "If I tried summoning a toad for transport, it might just explode."

"Huh," said Naruto, considering that. "Hey! It looks like the forest ends over there!"

"Good, maybe we can see a landmark then," said Jiraiya, turning and using a fast Rasengan on yet another carnivorous plant that had extended pseudopods. "This REALLY isn't the Land Of Fire but I don't remember hearing about carnivorous vines."

Naruto ran ahead, still full of the whole youthful enthusiasm set. Jiraiya, as befitted his age, was a bit more cautious.

Jiraiya caught up to Naruto a moment later though, as Naruto was standing there and staring at the scene in shock.

"Naruto," said Jiraiya as soon as he recovered himself from the sight, "I don't think we're anywhere NEAR the Hidden Leaf at this point."

"No freaking kidding," said Naruto eventually after getting a crick in his neck watching some sort of ship pass nearly overhead.

"Well, let's go, but cautiously," said Jiraiya. "Maybe we can at least figure out where that curse you picked up sent us."

"It wasn't my fault!" complained Naruto, tagging along behind Jiraiya as the older ninja set out.

One Week Later:
Tsunade slammed her hands down on the desk. "WHAT?!"

CRASH! collapsed the desk and the stacks of paperwork that HAD been covering it.

"We're still investigating, but the sailor is apparently telling the truth," said Ibuki. "His Captain owes Jiraiya a favor or two, and passed word on to us as a result. Jiraiya and Naruto were caught up in a reverse-summoning jutsu going out of control by a scholar of such things who had been caught up in the Plague of Madness that occasionally breaks out in that city."

"They went to Konmei?" asked Shizune, pausing in her gathering of paperwork.

"Jiraiya had apparently confided in this ship's captain that he thought he was being tracked or followed, and thought Konmei the place to throw off such pursuit," said Ibuki.

"Any idea where they went?" asked Tsunade.

Ibuki shook his head. "As I said, we're still investigating. It will take time to reach Konmei and investigate further, especially with the need to switch teams out."

"Rather than leave a single team in Konmei for very long, yes," said Tsunade, sitting back down in her chair.

"My lady, your foot," said Shizune in a pained voice.

"Oh, sorry," said Tsunade absently, removing her foot from her assistant's hand. "Very well, keep me informed."

"Lady Tsunade?" asked Shizune.

"Akatsuki is after the Ninetails that is in Naruto," said Tsunade. "We don't know what their plans are, but there is the chance that they have already captured Naruto. On the other hand, this 'friend' of Jiraiya's may actually be just that. We won't be able to tell what's happened to Naruto and that Old Fool until after the investigation is complete."

Meanwhile Naruto and Jiraiya are in:
