A toad rapped on the window. "Yo."
"Enter," said Tsunade, leaning back in her chair. At least it was a break from her current reading material. Which was on grain shipment allocation along border towns. Which might have some significance as food shifting around might indicate the movement of hidden troops. Though probably not in this case. No, a break from reading that report was a good thing.
"Yo. You must be Tsunade," said the reddish toad. "I bring a message from Jiraiya."
"I guessed that," said Tsunade. "Nobody else sends a toad for a messenger."
"Yeah, well, this was a long trip," said the toad. "I got summoned to a strange place, handed this weird gadget, then had to dismiss myself and then make my way here."
"'Weird gadget'?" asked Shizune.
The toad reached into his mouth, spreading it wide to pull out an odd metal device. It looked, to Shizune's first impression, to be some sort of cup holder.
At which point a crystal flared to life at the front of the machine and an image of Jiraiya appeared.
"Tsunade, I think I've figured out how to send messages to you via my toad contract," said the Jiraiya-image. "My training with Naruto was interrupted by some space/time jutsu that threw us an unimaginable distance. We are now in a time not our own, and a world far from home."
"A long time ago and a galaxy far far away," said Naruto's voice from the device.
"Quiet, I'm talking here," said the Jiraiya-image.
"What IS that he's wearing?" asked Tsunade.
"Robes of some kind? Maybe they're at a temple?" suggested Shizune.
"In any case," said Jiraiya-image, "there are unique opportunities for training here so we're taking advantage of those."
"He still hasn't told us where he is," noted Shizune.
"Wait for it, he loves his little dramatic build-ups," noted Tsunade.
"He means," said Naruto's voice from the device, "new ways of running me ragged and handing out pain."
"Quiet, brat," said Jiraiya-image. "If you want to experience pain, we can talk to Tsunade about training you."
"Not a chance," said Tsunade.
"No way," said Naruto's voice.
"Oh, and not that it will mean anything to you," said Jiraiya. "As to our location, we're:"
