Demon Japan: Through The Looking Glass [Episode 234012]

"We have connection," said the SERA operative, adjusting the feed.

"It's a blank picture," pointed out the commander.

"The kappa is taking the device back, the relays are working, it's just that none of the data is making sense," said the sensor-tech.

"She's right," said another technician. "Sonar is giving conflicting readings."

"Send a timed-shutdown and restart signal, give it ten additional minutes," said the commander.

"So," said one of the scientists behind everyone else, "they're in the place between worlds?"

"Right," said another scientist. "Those reports that even a number of the offplanars have trouble making the journey seem to be borne out."

"Signal received," said the first technician. "Though something seemed odd about the signal."

The second technician went over the log. "Huh. Redshift on the acknowledgement signal, that's what the odd thing was."

"This is going to cost us a LOT of pickles," commented one of the scientists.

"If this works, it'll be worth it," said the other scientist.

"Glad I own stock in Vlasic," remarked the second technician.

"Signal," said the first technician.

Kyoko Zeppelin Sohryu didn't know how, but she knew someone was on to her.

Just that someone had strewn spirit-wards in front of her like that was indication that something was amiss. Turning around to go by a different route merely brought her to face with a bunch of armored operatives with guns.

Still, she could try bluffing her way through. Raising her arms in surrender, she frowned at them. "Do you have any idea who you're detaining? This is completely unacceptable."

"Actually, we agree," said someone she didn't recognize. "Your choices are to actually surrender or be destroyed."

Kyoko stepped forward, mouth open to protest. Someone shot her. In the mouth.

"Peh," spat Kyoko. "Hmph. Violence is the first refuge of the incompetent."

"That's not quite the quote, and violence is sometimes the perfectly acceptable way of dealing with a problem," said the man.

Kyoko shook her head. "So glad you agree. Nails lengthened to sword-like talons. Teeth became fangs, legs and arms stretched out to double their previous length. "Let's test that."

"Let's not," said the man. "Takato?"

"Guilemon?"

A three foot tall lizard flicked his long ears and grinned.

"Transmission incoming," said the first technician.

"Interesting," said the first scientist. "Desert landscape. Reminds me of the American Southwest."

"Except you don't normally see cactus running around," pointed out the second scientist.

"Notice the boundary there, swamp on one side, desert on the other," said the first scientist.

"Signal fading," said the technician as the fuzziness in the picture increased.

"Keep it as long as possible," said the commander. "This is our first look into this other realm. Make it count, people."
