Naruto watched as Naruko was teamed up with Sasuke and Sakura. Things weren't going as he remembered though, because Naruko and Sasuke did NOT go well together - Naruko was stronger than Sasuke and Sasuke didn't handle that a singer was stronger than him at all well. Sakura and Naruko didn't get along either, as Sakura saw irritating Naruko as a way to ingratiate herself to Sasuke.
D-Missions went by. Naruko using shadow clones and summonings, spending many evenings hanging out with other teams and giving impromptu concerts.
Naruko had fans develop, had guys beginning to fall for her.
The Wave Mission came and went, with Naruko pulling strings and arranging for the escort mission to become a Charity Concert for Wave with the escort being accomplished under that guise.
It turned out that Haku was a fan, and Zabuza for all his tough killer atmosphere was a 'closet fan.'
Even Gato had trouble managing his control of Wave when thousands of fans started showing up for the now-real Charity Concert. Sasuke sulked and brooded, Sakura helped him, Kakashi met a couple of VERY friendly women whose daughters were fans of Naruko's work.
Resulting in Wave not being so impoverished, the daimyo having an excuse to look into Gato's dealings, and Team 7 having a successful mission in which nobody got killed.
Naruto continued to watch as things played out, deliberately staying way away from the push-button that would insert him into this timeline.
It all fell apart in the Chunin Exams. Naruko was eager to make chunin, then start make arrangments for her career as idol singer/spy to flourish.
Things diverged again rapidly as Naruko convinced Team Asuma and Team Kurenai that by banding together instead of competing against each other, their ability to survive was much increased as the other groups would NOT be teaming up.
Sasuke objected. Sasuke was outvoted. Shikamaru pointed out that if working with others increased their chances of survival and success, then it was the most chunin thing to do.
Orochimaru went after Sasuke in the Forest Of Death, facing not only the three combined teams but Team Guy who was drawn to the sheer amount of carnage being involved.
Orochimaru went through their combined teams, taking out Team Asuma quickly. Team Kurenai went down thereafter, and Neji ended up humiliated for the first time in his life as trying to go one-on-one against Orochimaru did NOT go well at all.
Sasuke got his hickey/curse mark. Naruko fought, fought well, and actually made Orochimaru take her seriously for the two minutes it took when it was just him versus her.
Naruko Uzumaki died from the poison and wounds before getting to the tower.
You know, you could have saved her by merging with her at that point.
Screw you, kitty! I am NOT becoming a girl.
You use the Oiroke often enough.
Yeah, and I spend maybe five minutes at most that way.
Meh, okay then.
Naruto gave out a breath he didn't know he'd been holding when the timeline had played out.
The large room with all the statues reappeared, and Naruto quickly went out amongst them all, examining each.
Those are all time-compression variants, provided the cat-being as Naruto examined a particular row.
"What's that mean?" asked Naruto.
It means that I use a translation function in which you spend time outside your universe and more time passes for you while you're away than your return point. Basically, you spend days in another world training then return to Konoha where only minutes have passed. Either little bits of time here and there, or one big chunk before the team sorting.
"Ooooh, an advanced training cheat!" summed up Naruto.
Well, yes.
"That sounds good," said Naruto, now examining the statues more carefully.
This section right here are roles you'd learn in a place called Abeir-Toril, more commonly referred to as the Forgotten Realms.
[Cleric Naruto] was brandishing some totem, dressed in elaborate clothing with an odd symbol on it.
Naruto looked over the small print. [Cleric Naruto is a servant of a god of the Realms, channelling divine energies to heal and protect his friends and allies.]
"Huh," said Naruto, thinking that might be handy.
The next one was labelled [Fighter Naruto] and had a heavily armored Naruto wielding a two-handed sword.
[Fighter Naruto is an accomplished warrior who has trained extensively as a swordmaster under the tutelage of masters of that skillset.]
Naruto didn't know about that. Wouldn't all that armor be hard to move around in?
[Paladin Naruto] was the next statue. The armor was present there as well. Where [Fighter Naruto] was crouched in a ready-for-battle pose, [Paladin Naruto] was holding his sword aloft as if posing. He also had a Western-style longsword and a shield compared to Fighter's two-handed sword.
Naruto craned closer to look at Paladin's description. [A holy warrior of Tyr, god of justice, whose skill with the blade is rivalled by his use of protection and healing arts. Able to heal his allies and himself while protecting those precious to him by fighting evil directly.]
Naruto smiled at that and looked over the armored figure a bit more closely. The sword might be brandished, but he could see a few more weapons slung into place.
Eventually he DID go to the next one, and grinned at the pose of this one. [Ranger Naruto] had a bow slung against his back, and was crouched in a pose that said "How do you do? I'm gonna slice you into tiny little bits and look cool doing it." to Naruto's eyes. Two swords, one in each hand, hooded cloak, mask kind of like Kakashi's.
[Ranger Naruto. If chosen, must specify either Archer Specialist or Two Blade Specialist. Archer specializes in fighting at a distance, Two-Blade is up close and in the enemy's face. Ranger Naruto trained at Silverymoon.]
Naruto was feeling pretty good about those two, but not really willing to commit to either, so he moved to the next statue and goggled at that one.
[Rogue Naruto] was posing like he was a "cocky sonnova" with a grin and one hand on a ninjato at his hip.
That there was a large lumpy bag behind this Naruto statue was not lost on the onlooking Naruto.
[Rogue Naruto won't steal from friends, everyone else is fair game. A specialist in stealth, misdirection, and looting everything possible from an area/individuals. He is also good at finding, dismantling, and building traps.]
Naruto was fairly eager after the last three to see what was next in line.
[Warlock Naruto] was wearing a hood and mask, and almost entirely concealed in his clothing. He seemed a different sort of arrogant from the Rogue though, his arms folded in front of him. Even with the mask, you could tell this one was sneering at whoever crossed his path.
[Warlock Naruto has tamed the beast within him through violence and a harsh will. With his pact to the powers he's sworn to, he promises vengeance most dire to any who oppose him.]
Naruto's smile was down considerably after that one, just looking at that version of himself had felt more wrong than looking at the two versions of Naruko.
[Warlord Naruto] stood next. Wearing pieces of armor visible under a layer of clothing, holding a pennant in one hand.
[Warlord Naruto is a tactician and strategist, always making a plan and not really happy unless he has two backup plans.]
"Huh," said Naruto, passing that one by. Standing around planning stuff out sounded more like Shikamaru's thing.
[Wizard Naruto] stood in loose clothing, an elaborate staff in one hand, and the other hand held out in a hand-seal that Naruto didn't immediately recognize.
[Wizard Naruto wields the powers of creation and destruction, adapting to every situation and mission with whatever spells he has memorized ahead of time. As a powerful Wizard, Naruto can access spells that the Sharingan cannot copy and the Byakugan cannot defeat.]
"Ooooooooh," responded Naruto.
