The spirit didn't answer verbally, merely looking sad.
"See, Ieyasu Tokugawa was good at that whole looking-ahead thing," said Toltiir. "If the Iga and Koga united - you'd be stronger than you were apart. He thought you were already too strong. Then there was Tenzen's part in the whole thing."
The spirit shook her head.
"Oh yes, Tenzen. Really, what is it with you mortals? You go nuts trying to find a way to relative immortality, and then those of you who do find a way to do it usually lose your humanity. Becoming even more nuts in the process."
The spirit made a few gestures.
"What? The others? You were all united in hatred. You could have pulled a fast one on everyone."
The spirit made another set of gestures.
"Remove the hatred? A chance for life without that... possible." The cat thought for a few moments. "In fact, there might be some ironic humor in seeing them pair off with people they loathed on the other side. Not that Tenzen though. Too close to Orochimaru and one of him is quite enough. The local kami would have a fit if I put another of him in there."
The spirit seemed a little put-off by this concept.
"Well, done," said Toltiir, flicking his tail. "I scattered your clan and the other clan through the various villages though. The local kami want things balanced out if I'm gonna do stuff like this. Pity. All roughly the same age so you'll be genin about the time Naruto is. We'll see if it becomes amusing."
The spirit of the kunoichi indicated herself.
"Yes, you'll be in the Leaf," said Toltiir to:
