"Yeah, it's useful when you need to spar someone of roughly your own skill level," said Naruto. "Not to mention there are sword techniques based off of it."
"The Hokage has arranged for a third member, so we'll be able to work on teamwork and coordinating attacks," said Kakashi.
"Okay," said Naruto. "What was the decision regarding that collaboration jutsu?"
"If you coordinate your 'Badger Slash' with Sasuke's modified Fireball and get it stabilized - the Hokage says it will be acceptable to use it," said Kakashi, who didn't add that ninja normally creating techniques didn't ask permission to do so. He understood that the monks that Naruto had trained with emphasized politeness for several years to the formerly loud youth.
"That will be good," said Naruto. "Any word on who the kunoichi will be?"
"What makes you think the new member will be a girl?" asked Kakashi, curious. Naruto spending as much of his time OUTSIDE the ninja village and its culture meant that he sometimes came up with some bizarre ideas regarding it.
"I've observed the other genin teams when we've encountered them," said Naruto. "There are always two male genin and one female genin. Why is that, anyway? I would think that all-male and all-female groups would make for less problems in the long run."
"Well," said Kakashi, scratching his head. "For one thing, there are less girls choosing to go with the ninja lifestyle. Another reason goes back to the 'different strengths supporting each other' philosophy. It's usually the case, but it isn't one of those 'secret ninja rules' that it be set up that way."
"Hmmm," said Naruto, dismissing his clones. "Hinata?"
The wooden sword began to smoke, the smoke coalescing into a vaguely humanoid shape. "Yes?"
"Scan please," said Naruto.
"No one is nearby, there are no active seals or listening devices," stated Hinata confidently.
Naruto toweled sweat off and then glanced at Kakashi again.
Kakashi shook his head. "It wasn't necessary. We use summoning techniques to get items like radios and such, high tech equipment we could make in the past but can't anymore. Well, this time we got someone instead of something and since we're responsible for them being here-"
"Ah," said Naruto. "So we're also keeping an eye on them to make sure they're not some shapeshifting monster."
"That's right," said Kakashi, privately pleased that his genin had learned to look for hidden meanings. Of course, that kind of fit in with the whole monastic lifestyle too. "The name of your new team-mate is:"
