"Look, dobe," said Sasuke, explaining as if to a particularly slow child. Which was how he regarded Naruto actually. "Your strength is good. Your control is not. I can hit you with a kunai all day and you'll barely get scratched, and then you'll heal in minutes. So, who do you think should go down in there? Sakura?"
"Well... no..." admitted Naruto.
"If a rat bites you, it won't get past your skin," pointed out Sasuke.
"But I'm the one with the best sense of smell," complained Naruto. "It's a sewer!"
"Naruto! Don't be selfish! You don't expect SASUKE to go in there and get the bracelet, do you?" chided Sakura.
Naruto looked at Sakura, then Sasuke, then finally at Kakashi. No help to be found. "But..."
It was Kakashi who finally had a moment of pity and tossed Naruto a clothespin to pin his nose with.
It wasn't much of a moment of pity, but it was there.
Next Day:
"Not a sewer again is it?" asked Naruto, almost pleading.
"No," said Kakashi. "Today's D-Rank mission is dredging the bottom of the river to remove silt deposits!"
"Sounds like a Naruto job," offered Sasuke.
"Very true," agreed Sakura.
"WHAT?!" exclaimed Naruto.
"Meh, so if it's a 'Naruto job' - what will you two be doing?" asked Kakashi, thinking this didn't sound like teamwork but privately admitting that maybe the most efficient method WAS the one Sasuke was suggesting.
"Supervising," said Sasuke.
"Right," said Sakura.
"Why?" asked Naruto.
"Because we'd just get in your way," said Sasuke. "This is definitely a raw strength thing."
"But..." said Naruto.
"You might have a point," admitted Kakashi. Not wanting to, because of the whole lack-of-teamwork thing. However he didn't even see how Sakura and Sasuke could reasonably contribute to something like that.
"What?" asked Naruto.
"People are noticing that Team 7 has some serious physical strength, so we're getting a lot more missions like that," said Kakashi.
