Before they split up, Zelgadis brought up a point that in the past Xoana had no reason to get ready for war, and the golem wasn't pulled out into use until Amelia was sent to confront them about their troop buildup years later.
Apparently, in the original history, Seyruun caught a spy from Xoana, which led to a confrontation of a diplomatic kind. Xoana was forced to agree to lower its number of active soldiers, even though they would eventually back out of the agreement.
But due to the fact that the kingdom was in uproar over Amelia's growth of power, the spy was able to escape with the news, and Xoana, undaunted, decided it was the perfect time to build up their forces, including the golem.
Lina wasn't intending on making an enemy out of Martina already, but it seemed fate was forcing her to repeat some events. Of course it meant she skipped some adventures outright, like being immortalized in the form of a 'cute' golem, or thwarting a dragon's plan to supplant humans. So as she, Naga, and Gourry headed towards Xoana...
