Usagi's New Life: Council of Elders [Episode 24859]

by Kestral

Cologne was Matriarch and War Leader. She was not the only leader of the village however. If she decided to take off for a year or two, others would take over the day-to-day things.

Cologne was the leader of the Amazons, specifically the warriors who kept the village safe and whose martial arts were a main feature of every day life.

Lilac was the head of the Healers. The branch that kept injuries from getting out of hand and practiced healing arts every bit as exotic and esoteric as the martial artists did. She was a couple of centuries younger than Cologne, a bit earthy, and fond of embarassing the younger generation.

Choco was the head of the Lore branch, keeping the law and lore and history of the Amazons. It was reputed that they knew magic.

Tam was the Crafts representitive, who was old and reaching senility despite the lore of the Healers. How much of her was actually present at any of these meetings was a point of debate.

Roda was the representitive from the Farmers. She typically slept through meetings anyway.

"Xi was technically the first defeated," insisted Lilac. "Therefore she should give the Kiss Of Marriage. Ah, I remember when I was younger..."

Cologne quickly interrupted, not wanting to spend the next half hour with Lilac dredging up all that about "her Douglas" again. "Shampoo was the Champion and last to be defeated, therefore it is her claim that is the most valid."

Roda nodded at both arguments and suggested: "So have them both give the Kiss Of Marriage. This boy seemed lively enough."

"...it was sort of like oranges..." mused Tam.

Choco cleared her throat. "Technically, as a direct descent from our esteemed Matriarch, Shampoo has the best claim."

"Exactly," said Cologne.

"You just want to see some great-great-grandbabies," complained Lilac. "Why does it always have to be about your descendents?"

"...or was it like chrysanthemum wine..." continued Tam.

Cologne glared at Lilac. "Because I'm the Matriarch, that's why."

"Like you're never wrong," sniffed Lilac. "Remember how you were wrong about my Douglas?"

Roda began snoring. Nap time!

Choco cleared her throat as she looked through her tomes. "Yes. Here we are. A clearcut precedent... or no. Hmmm."

"Please don't start in about Douglas again," pleaded Cologne. OK. She had been wrong. Once. When you were three hundred years old see how quickly you could fall into old patterns!

"...though it could have been like that peach brandy, don't you think, Tea?" asked Tam.

"Considering that the Tea you're asking about died one hundred forty seven years ago, I don't think so," said Cologne. "As for you, Lilac, just because you're nearly a century old - that's nothing around here. Don't think you've got all the answers."

"At least I'm not stuck in a way of thinking that ended three hundred years ago," supplied Lilac. "Honestly! Why even bother with the Kiss Of Marriage? Participation in the Tournament is usually exempt from the usual rivalries and laws regarding such."

Choco blinked. "That's right. It's in one of my books. Now where was it?"

"Because I'm the Matriarch, that's why." Cologne insisted. "Why can't you just accept that I'm right? As always."

"You weren't right about my Douglas," insisted Lilac. "Why, I remember when I first met him..."

"So where are we going," said Ranma as the various barely clothed girls stood around protectively. One splash of hot water had turned him male again and he was really trying not to notice how some of the girls were looking.

"Well," suggested Setsuna, "we should try:
