"I'm Tenten, is the offer still open?" asked the taller girl.
"'Offer'?" asked Naruto.
"I'll be your friend," said Tenten. "I'll help you achieve your goals, if you'll help me achieve my goals."
"I wanna be Hokage, what are your goals?" asked Naruto.
"I want to be a great kunoichi like Tsunade of the Sannin," said Tenten. "If I get some sort of awesome summons - like I hear you can do, then that's another step towards my goal."
"I... see," said Naruto, taking that in. "Pinky swear?"
"Ninja don't pinky swear,' said Tenten to the now-ten year old from the lofty height of eleven years of age. "I'll swear though if you can do your part, I'll do mine."
"Okay," said Naruto, holding out a hand. If they couldn't pinky-swear they could shake on it right?
Tenten shrugged and went ahead and shook the boy's hand. She was serious though, a summons could be DAMN useful in their career. She might have to build up her chakra a lot though. Didn't they take huge amounts of chakra?
"So, do you want to be my friend too?" Naruto asked Hinata.
There was a startled squeak and she turned red, but she finally nodded.
"Okay," said Naruto, cracking his fingers. "Let's get to it!"
Four days later:
Tenten smirked as she sat back and watched her class exercise. She just had to build up her chakra so that she didn't pass out for three days every time she used her summons.
That had been a little embarassing.
Now however, she had a thoroughly cool one. While she was a serious kunoichi, she could also appreciate cool and impressive. The words that had just seemed to come on their own when she'd tried to do the summoning had been pretty good too. Not going to win a poetry contest or anything, but: "You who race the rage of the Heavens, rider of the ranges of the skies, I call you - Ixion!" had been good enough for her.
And she'd only glimpsed him briefly before the chakra drain had knocked her out - but the black unicorn with the silver hooves and mane and golden horn had seemed pretty impressive.
Hopefully her sensei at the Academy knew some exercises to build up chakra reserves.
Ten year old Hinata Hyuga KNEW ahead of time, even without Tenten's wonderful example - that she would NOT be able to summon anything from the contract. Right now at least.
The Hyuga clan were able to see chakra and had to be able to judge things pretty well. Of course, there was no chakra mirror so you couldn't see yourself very well - but she had to be able to see SOME of it. And compared to her younger sister, cousin Neji, their father, or even a number of the chunin and jonin of the clan - hers were a minor trivial thing of hardly any note at all.
Still she had it, and she knew what it was due to Naruto explaining what it was.
She was really looking forward to it though.
