Mischief Fragment - Wishcraft: Valley of the End endings [Episode 249688]

by Kestral

Timelines existed. Every decision could potentially spin off a different timeline. The vast majority of those spun off their differences immediately - so that they re-merged and became one again. So there were not a dozen timelines involving Ralph Germain finding his car keys in a half-dozen different places. Only the most probable was left, most of the time, in such cases. There were exceptions however where one of the lower probabilities dominated at the end.

So Toltiir looked over the battle of the Valley Of The End and saw the various endings. In some, there was a fate skewing of odds so that Sasuke defeated Naruto and walked away - almost certainty. If there was no such 'Plot Armor' involved it became a medium-low probability and the highest probability involved Naruto dying. Second highest probability involved further agents of Orochimaru being in the area "to keep an eye on things."

Toltiir chose one and fast-forwarded through things. Naruto dies. Things settle down. Leaf responds to Sand's call for aid. Things diverge further when Deidara and Sasori fight different opponents. Sakura ends up the 300th human puppet of Sasori. Further divergence when the Ninetails fragment reforms. Akatsuki manages to get the nine bijuu. Usual stuff thereafter with the worldwide genjutsu and people starving to death while their minds are locked into a genjutsu.

Boring. Even if this bit with Sasori's technique for human puppetry was different in that he actually locked the soul into the puppet so that the puppet didn't actually die until the core was smashed. Odd variant that. Might have to do something with that timeline. Maybe Peggy Sue Sakura from that.

So - the fight or aftermath at the Valley of the End. How to change things up?

Easiest was to grab one of the "Naruto dies at the Valley Of The End" ends of his story. Letting Sasuke or Kabuto or some other minion think Naruto was dead from obviously-fatal wounds, but allow Naruto to survive was the most obvious. Maybe a permanent scar or some other little reminder from the encounter could remain to teach him that in a to-the-death fight one didn't try to make some obscure point?

Or perhaps something a little less underwhelming, having Naruto reach an agreement with Kurama about beating an Uchiha senseless and defeating Sasuke with four tails worth of smackdown? Not funny, per se. Though certainly the Kyubi would find it amusing to some extent.

Maybe have Akatsuki get involved? Certainly possible - one of the teams WAS in the area at the time. Paths intersecting and ending up with the "bad guys" fighting each other had much potential for mucking up with the timeline, and having Akatsuki members finding themselves unintentionally as heroes certainly had the irony aspect covered.

Sakura going along and joining the fight against Sasuke, THAT didn't happen very often - but it COULD occur and therefore did in at least five timelines. Unfortunately, in each circumstance that he witnessed - Sakura ended up attaining an unconscious state very early in the fight. A splash of water COULD be directed to wake her up prior to the fight's conclusion. At which point she could witness Sasuke attempt to kill Naruto, at which point she either started getting over Sasuke or she could end up doing what Haku did in that battle on the bridge earlier. Sakura dying at Sasuke's hands before a horrified Naruto would certainly not be funny, but might derail things a bit.

Hmmm. The Sasuke Retrieval Arc could certainly have gone differently. Appearing before one of them to grant a wish was certainly possible, or simply throwing in a higher-level nin who was either allied to Konoha or against Orochimaru could throw off one of the battles or allow faster clean-up.

Toltiir considered these and other possibilities before deciding to try:
