Mischief Fragment - Wishcraft: Terra and the D-Rank Missions [Episode 250958]

by Kestral

One month later:
"What kind of mission do we have today? Walking dogs? Picking up golf balls? Finding a cat?" asked Naruto, not looking up from his work on a fuuinjutsu array that covered most of the floor of the cabin.

"Not quite," said Kakashi, looking it over. "This is the chakra-sharing seal?"

"Yeah, I'm putting in extra filters," said Naruto. "Just in case something other than the usual chakra gets involved."

"Good idea," said Kakashi, considering that. After all, if it DID, then he might end up burning out someone's chakra coils. Yes, extra filters DID sound like a good plan. "No, we're actually killing something today."

"What?" asked Naruto, not having expected this.

"Yes, it appears that someone, we're still not sure who - attempted to use one of your arrays to do a summoning," said Kakashi. "Whatever they were trying for, they got all these spiders."

"Spiders?" asked Naruto, holding thumb and forefinger close together.

"Spiders," said Kakashi, holding his hands about a foot apart.

"Really?" asked Naruto, blinking. "Wow."

"And before you ask the question Terra did, you get paid per mission NOT per spider," added Kakashi.

"How many spiders are we talking about?" asked Naruto.

"There's another!" said Hinata, pointing.

"Flame bullet!" called out Terra, throwing a quick fire bolt at the scurrying arachnid.

"Dang, there's a lot of them," complained Naruto.

"Eep!"

Terra and Naruto both regarded Hinata.

"How many?" asked Naruto finally.

"I can't count them all," said Hinata, looking paler than ever and pointing at an out-building.

Terra and Naruto now regarded the building.

"Kakashi-sensei?" asked all three genin.

"Well, just have to do it," said Naruto after their sensei failed to show up.

"Why did you feel compelled to blow up an outhouse?" asked Kakashi, regarding the scorched and blackened smouldering building.

"Because there were over a hundred spiders inside?" tried Naruto.

Kakashi considered that, watching as a panel fell off the outhouse and little blackened balls of spider came rolling out. Lots of them. He considered that for a moment. "Oh. Okay. Good job."

"So we're making spare parts for the airship?" asked Naruto.

"That's right," said Kakashi with a nod.

"Well, at least it's not spiders," said Naruto as he beheld what had been summoned this time.

"So, Kakashi-sensei, any idea who's doing this?" asked Terra, looking up at their sensei. For one thing, it meant she was NOT having to look at the Uchiha District and what it was covered in.

"Someone who has a lot of confidence, and not necessarily a lot of talent," said Kakashi. "At least as far as fuuinjutsu is concerned."

"So are we getting paid per kill this time?" asked Naruto.

"No," said Kakashi. "Nice try though."

"What exactly are they?" asked Hinata.

"They're slimes," said Terra. "Red and blue and goo. Mostly harmless. Vermin sort of thing."

"Harmless?" asked Kakashi.

FWOOM!

Terra blew smoke off her fingers as the slimes scattered as quickly as they could. Which wasn't very quickly at all.

"Oh," said Naruto. "Target practice."

"Wow another replacement part for the airship?" asked Naruto.

"Yes, they want to have a stockpile," said Kakashi.

"Oh, that makes sense," admitted Naruto.

"Golf ball collection? Really?" asked Naruto the next day.

"It's a typical D-Rank," admitted Kakashi.

"Well," said Hinata, as she tried to be cheerful. "At least there won't be any slimes involved!"
