"Well, you're not actually a ninja are you?" asked Hiruzen Sarutobi, leading the way into the building.
"No," admitted Saber.
"So we start you off as a genin and let you work your way up," said the Hokage. "This way you can keep an eye on Naruto and assist in his training. When team assignments are handed out, you'll be on his team."
Saber didn't say anything, though from her expression there were parts of this she didn't agree with.
"All ninja of the Leaf start out as genin and are assigned to a team of three under a jonin-sensei," said the Hokage. "The question is who the third genin to stick on your team. Naruto is not a ninja, strictly speaking anymore. I understand the correct term is 'paladin' - while you yourself are a warrior and a sword specialist."
Saber nodded, not disagreeing with the summary.
"Your team is going to be specialized," said the Hokage as he sat down at his desk. "While most teams will do the typical D-Rank missions, I have special plans for your team."
"Why?" asked Saber.
"Naruto needs to make more friends," said the Hokage. "The team will be given preference for rescue and bodyguard duties. Your weapon skills and Naruto's holy chakra will assist in such things. Any preferences for who to be your third genin?"
"Tenten might be suitable," said Saber eventually.
"She's already on a genin team," noted the Hokage. "Getting her would be trickier."
Saber looked over the folders with photographs that an ANBU set out on the desk, frowning as she considered.
"Not included are those like Tobio who have very little talent to bring to the group," said the ANBU. "As well as those who are already spoken for. There is considerable desire among many to recreate the Shiki-Ino-Cho trio due to their jutsu having a synergy factor."
"Likewise, Kakashi Hatake wants Sasuke Uchiha on his team if he even accepts a team this year," said the Hokage.
Saber considered what she'd seen of the various genin as she pondered the concept. She was being asked for a preference, so her choice might have impact - but it wouldn't be a done deal. So she ought to go with solid reasoning.
"I've observed the genin, mostly as invisible and intangible, a ghost associating with Naruto," said Saber as she looked over the files and finally indicated:
