"Abra!"
"Excellent," said the Hokage, nodding at the creature. "Ibiki?"
"The creatures are very clever and capable of learning but not speaking much of our language," said the interrogator. "We can determine the trustworthiness of these new allies since there is a very limited number of them."
"Providing Naruto doesn't get more, and he's already indicated a reluctance to go 'bouncing around multiple universes' as he did previously," said the Hokage.
"He did indeed seem completely sincere," agreed Ibiki.
"Well then," said the Hokage. "That brings us to team sorting."
Konohamaru scratched his head. "So, an animal mascot like Grandpa has?"
"Yeah, it seems this little guy chose you," said Naruto, shrugging. "You said you were my rival for the position of Hokage - so you shouldn't turn down any chance like this."
"I guess," said Konohamaru, considering that and then deciding that it was another step towards the goal of Hokage. Besides, it wasn't like there weren't other ninja who had animal companions to help them out.
"Good," said Naruto. That this was the last of the tag-alongs he'd managed to get adopted was just something that he'd NOT mention at this point. At least he'd managed to get most of the little monster-critters off in that one cave.
"Charmander!" declared Konohamaru's pokemon.
