"Wearing a mask," noted Naruto, scowling. "Well, let's give it a try. Windy!"
Again the card was brandished and tapped with one hand. It flared briefly, then the woman swirled out of it and grew to human sized.
"Windy," said Naruto, pointing at the picture in the bingo book. "This is the guy we're looking for. Kakashi Hatake. It's a few years old but can you find him?"
Windy studied the picture, then swirled out the window - fading away as she did.
"Huh," said Sakura, reading the entry. "Kakashi Hatake, aka 'Sharingan Kakashi', or 'Copycat Kakashi'?"
"'Sharingan'?" asked Sasuke, abruptly more interested.
"Wow, it says he's learned over one thousand jutsu, been on over a thousand missions - most of them B and A rank but he's been on nearly fifty S-Rank missions!" Sakura continued to go through the file. After all, since they had tracked down this bingo book in the teachers' offices - they might as well gather all the intel they could. "He favors teamwork and has been in ANBU Black Ops as first a squad leader and then captain."
"Hmmmm," hmmmed Sasuke. It sounded as if this 'Kakashi' was fairly competent and used to operating in the shadows.
"Whoa, so we got a really good sensei," said Naruto.
Sakura was reluctant to say this, very reluctant, but she decided she had to. "It doesn't happen very often, Naruto, but it looks like you were right here. This probably IS a test."
"If he's been with ANBU and accomplished so many S-Class missions, he's probably the sort to favor keeping things hidden," said Sasuke, a little bit impressed with his team at this point. It looked like Sakura wasn't a completely useless fangirl and even the dead-last had some useful skills.
"So if he says or does something, there's probably a lot we need to figure out?" asked Naruto, frowning heavily. "Man. Just when I thought we'd gotten a break. We're gonna be second-guessing everything."
A wind whipped into the room, and Windy faded into view.
"Found him," interpreted Naruto needlessly.
There was only one person there, staring at the odd monument.
"What is that anyway?" whispered Naruto.
"Some kind of monument?" whispered back Sakura.
"Memorial," said Sasuke, having particularly good eyesight. "Flowers and incense sticks laid at the base."
"A memorial? What's that?" asked Naruto.
Sakura bopped Naruto lightly in the head. "Idiot. It was erected for someone who died."
"Many someones," whispered Sasuke, continuing to stare. "There are names engraved on every side. Lots of names."
"There's probably hidden meanings going on here too," said Sakura. "Probably some lesson we're supposed to figure out."
"So... should we just ask him?" said Naruto.
"No, if this IS a test we'll have to figure it out on our own," said Sakura. Emphasized teamwork while he was an ANBU Black Ops Captain. Late to meeting his new genin team because he was staring at a memorial. What could it all mean?
Naruto stiffened abruptly. "He's doing something. There's another version of him over there."
There were three genin sitting in the bush over there whispering.
More to the point, those were the three genin he'd been assigned and who were supposed to be waiting for him in their classroom for another hour.
He did a quick Shadow Clone and Substitution, then used a Shunshin to move behind the three.
To his surprise, they reacted almost instantly, yelling and leaping away despite that they shouldn't have been able to detect him at their level. Seeing that, Kakashi pushed his headband up to look with his Sharingan.
There was a tendril of diffuse chakra going like smoke from Naruto throughout the area. So, a sensor technique? How interesting.
