Restart Deluge! Unfamiliar of Zero: Who ordered the dragon? [Episode 257122]

by Heaven Canceler

When he had come to the convention, he had expected to have a fairly normal time.

Dancing, talking, just having fun was what he had planned. Not that he was actually that interested in the party itself. He was the type that preferred a good book and some conversation over such things.

Someone had asked him what he would wear to the convention. At first he had been unsure and searched for a good idea. Then sometime when browsing trough the net, he saw something interesting. It was a Wikipedia entry with a list of the different dragons from Dungeons and Dragons.

He was not really a big fan of the series, but he liked the setting. Some of his favourite characters were from the Dragonlance series. Because of his history with the mentioned series, he knew a bit about the different types of dragons. The article had given him some standard information.

He was about to just switch to another website when he found it. The brown dragon looked more like a wild mix between fish, snake, eastern dragon and a Goa'uld from Stargate. The text told him that the giant reptile lived in the desert. They also had the ability to swim in the sand like in water. There were many other interesting facts, like their love for exotic food or their ability to exhale a small sandstorm.

He had immediately fallen in love with their design.

So from that day on he started making his costume and creating a back story for his character. It was not really necessary, but happened anyway over time. If there was one thing he had in excess, then it was imagination. At one point someone asked him if his character used any weapons and from that point it escalated. Everything he added to the costume would get a small story and he even went trough the trouble of creating a spell list for the dragon.

So now he was wearing a reptilian costume with scales, horns and a small tale. He also could open the big head. This was mainly so he could breathe better and eat and drink at the party. He had gone trough so much trouble because of this convention, but in the end he didn't catch the train and was late. Because of this, he would not get to see the inside of the hotel.

The entrance to the convention was just coming into view when it happened. At first he didn't understand what it was. His body was feeling weird, foreign and almost like he was wearing clothes for a burial. Although what really tipped him off was, that he could remember a second lifetime. He was Duran Sanddiver, brown dragon, adopted son of a human wizard and adept in the mystical arts, but also a normal human in his early twenties. This was starting to give him a headache.

Unfortunately he didn't get any chance to order the chaos that was his mind. Screams were everywhere when people noticed their changes, but one thing stood out. Someone was running out of the hotel and was being followed by something. The person, a young woman as he noticed, tripped after a few moments. She tried to scramble to her feet, but she was too slow. The creature had not been running, yet the thing had managed to get to her in a moment. It looked vaguely human, but was anatomically incorrect and made you feel slightly sick just by looking. Slowly an overly long and thick limb moved in direction of the woman.

SMACK!!!!

The sound of a fist hitting, not quite flesh, but something was heard. The creature flew a few metres backwards, but regained its footing after a few seconds. It snarled loudly in an inhuman voice, but instead of fear it received a deep growl. Skin turned into scales, hands to claws and teeth to fangs as the dragon flung its body at the monster. The two titans grappled with each other. The giant reptile was trying to get away from bystanders and the thing was making that job pretty hard.

It was at this time that a green portal of light appeared. Without so much as a moment of contemplation both were swallowed up by the gate. Onlookers gaped in disbelief before going back to the state of panic that had, had priority before the fight began.

At the same time in Tristan's academy of magic a loud explosion was heard. Suddenly a normal school day turned into a chaotic battle. Duran ignored the humans around him. His muscles strained as he tried to strangle the thing. He was not lucky. The thing would change its size and form randomly whenever he was about to get a grip of it. It was like trying to catch smoke.

The fight was going badly when suddenly a tongue of fire shot at the abomination. The dragon immediately took advantage of the distraction. A deep intake of air and he fired his breath weapon.

Enchanted sand shot forth and the thing screamed in pain from burns and cuts. For a moment the fire mage and the dragon eyed each other warily. Then they returned their attention back to their mutual foe.
