One moment they were in that barren dusty moonscape with the black star filled sky above them, the next the three ninja found themselves back in Konoha, specifically at training ground twelve.
Shaking her head clear of the cobwebs caused by the dramatic shift in location, Sakura blinked her eyes clear and looked around. Glancing towards her teammates, she shot stock still. “Oh, kami… It was real!”
“You think?” Naruto, now Naruko, sourly replied as she flicked some blonde bangs out of her eyes.
The newly transformed Sasuke, now Sachiko, just stood with her arms crossed over her chest, sending an annoyed look at her pink haired teammate. The raven haired girl was still obviously not pleased with her gender change.
“Um… sorry?” Sakura lamely apologized, face flush with embarrassment.
“Yeah, cause that fixes everything.” Sachiko glibly stated before a thought struck her and forced her to jerk her head towards the village. “Wait a second… Mother!”
“What? Mother?” Naruko repeated in confusion, having been caught up with figuring out her new center of balance by walking around some. Then she blinked and pointed at the Uchiha. “Hey, yeah! Our Moms! Oh, man, I wonder what she’s like… I mean, I never knew her and…” The Uzumaki girl started babbling excitedly but nervously about the prospect of meeting her mother for the first time.
Realizing something, Sakura stepped in front of the two boys turned girls with her arms spread wide. “Hey, hold up a minute. Something isn’t right here.”
“Of course something isn’t right; me and the dube are both girls now.” Sachiko scoffed in response.
“Hey, I’m ‘Number One Kunoichi’ now, not ‘Dead Last’ anymore, Uchiha.” Naruko shot back with a glare.
“Guys!” Sakura loudly said to get their attention back. “That’s what I mean! If you guys are girls now, that means the wishes worked; at least those two did. But I still remember you two as being boys! Can you remember growing up as a girl or actually getting awarded ‘Top Kunoichi’? Cause I still remember how proud I was to win it and when Sasuke was top in the class.”
With it brought to their attention, both of the changed boys thought about it for a minute.
“I still remember cutting class with Shika, Chougi and Kiba. You know, hanging out doing guy stuff.” Naruko stated, trying to pull up any other memories which showed him as a girl.
Sachiko still remembered his brother’s cold eyes as he calmly told his ‘little brother’ to hate him with all his heart and use that hatred to one day kill him.
“So…” Naruko said while thinking out loud, “what if it was really all a genjutsu?”
The other two blinked at that thought, immediately forming the ram seal and shouting, “Kai!”
“Either it’s an insanely good genjutsu or this is all real.” Sachiko dourly stated.
“Okay, so it’s not a genjutsu, now what?” Naruko asked, adjusting her orange jacket slightly.
“Well, I think we should find out what everyone else remembers so we don’t seem out of place. I mean, if they all remember you two being boys, there’s going to be some questions… maybe even think we’re spies.” Sakura explained hesitantly.
“Crappy spies.” Sachiko corrected before nodding sharply. “I get what you’re getting at though. But how do we go about this without drawing attention?”
“I know!” Naruko jumped in with her hand raised. “I’ll make a kage bushin and have it go into the village. They’ll either think it’s normal or that I’m in my ‘Oiroke no Jutsu’. That way we’ll know if they see us as guys or girls!”
“That could work, I guess, but what if no one notices you?” Sakura hazarded.
Naruko snorted dismissively as she crossed her arms over her chest. “Villagers missing me when I’m not hiding is like missing the Hokage Monument.
“Or we could just go to my home and see if my mother is there.” Sachiko offered up as an alternative.
“Oh, yeah! We could go see my mom, too!” Naruko excitedly counter suggested.
“Those are all good suggestions but I was thinking, since I’m the only one that didn’t get changed, I could go look at our data files to double check them. No one would bother me, since my Dad works in the unclassified records section.”
“Well, we’ve got to do something. Which will it be?” Sachiko asked in exasperation.
