Great Will Revised: A land that was lost, and time forgot (LIME) [Episode 265603]

by Makutamon

When Ranma, Sue, Sam, Barbra, and Gordon first set their sights on Ranma's new property, they knew it would be more than big enough for the five of them. Ranma immediately contacted Kaos Konstruction Kompany to help with the building while he brought more friends over to live with them so they would have friends, rivals, and lovers. Toltiir was happy to help, both with the development of the commune, and with the development of Saurian (as they would soon call themselves) society and culture.

He would achieve this by a process similar to Reaper Indoctrination, except that instead of turning the Saurians into willing servants of mischief that were eventually unsustainable, they would develop along lines that he himself would direct. The motive behind this was: A) To really screw with Crystal Tokyo and save even more of earth's biomass; B) Create something that was a cross between Dinotopia, Las Vegas, and Jurassic park; and C) Have Ranma be the father of an entirely new civilization.

As Ranma continued to create more Saurians, and bring them to the Dinotopia Commune, a distinct culture was starting to develop, thanks to Toltiir's special equipment disguised as construction equipment.

Saurian architecture was similar to late medieval Japanese architecture, except that the ceilings were more than 12 feet above the floor, and they were all either single or two story buildings, and they were often built of extremely strong timbers meant to withstand loads well over 300 kg. They were also well decorated with beams, walls, and doors bearing ornamental carvings based on the Saurians themselves (the ends of beams would be carved with dinosaur heads, and the beams themselves would have twining carvings running their length, for example).

Saurian art was most often abstract depictions of foliage and/or creatures in their native habitats. When representative artwork was practiced, both in art and sculpture, predators were depicted in extremely active poses, while more sedentary herbivores were depicted in more calm activities.

While Ranma would eventually be depicted as a creator deity in Saurian religion (which wouldn't happen until Ranma himself was lo~oong dead), the primary focus was on the four Sacred Beasts. The summary of this kind of worship was based on a combination of evolution and Feng shui. Tanamos, the Sacred Beast of Fire who was depicted as a male, immensely muscled Tyrannosaur Saurian, was revered as a primal force of creation as well as destruction while Mylanaura, the Sacred Beast of Water who was depicted as an immensely pregnant Elasmosaur Saurian woman, was revered as the mother of all animal life in the world (given how life started in the ocean and eventually made it's way to land). Onuchrisos, the Sacred Beast of Earth, was a Seismosaur of such immense size, he carried the world on his shoulders, and caused earthquakes while he shifted his burden to a better spot, while Symnosaria, the Sacred Beast of Air, was an Ornithocheirus who shone as bright as the sun and whose mercurial emotions were responsible for the weather of the world. Saurian religion also believed that when a saurian dies, their soul travels to a new clutch of eggs of it's own kind to be reborn in the world again.

As it would turn out, saurian cuisine was somewhat on the simple side. Carnivores could only eat meat, and herbivores could only eat plants. There were also a number of things that simply could not be eaten by Saurians, period. Artificial snacks and chocolate were two of these, among other things, and sweets were often made of simple sugars and natural flavors.

Ranma was often a visitor to both the Museum of Paleontology and the Really, Really Big 'n' Tall Store. The clothing store eventually decided to use the Saurians in their advertisements (If we can fit these guys, we probably can fit you) Meanwhile the Japanese diet was engaged in a long debate about whether or not to extend citizenship to these Saurians, having apparently been in Japan long before it became a nation.

There were now many friends, rivals, and mated pairs that were part of the Dinotopia Commune, but not all of them were the big brawler kinds of martial artists, and some just weren't fit to be martial artists at all, although they did use the reinforced treadmills, etc. that Kaos Kitty Konglomerate provided them.

Jessica and Frank were one example of those who were not fit for the martial artist lifestyle. They were a mated pair of Parasauralophus who wanted to be performers, but while Frank could count his place amongst the best crooners of the world, Jessica had come up with a dance routine that every warm-blooded male visiting the commune would do their best to see (by sneaking out or otherwise) and would be vividly remembered long after the show was over. As it would turn out, their strange-shaped skulls enabled them to make trumpet-like noises to communicate over long distances, but Frank and Jessica could use it to accompany their performances.

Maia was another example of those who were not fit for martial arts. She was part of a group of Maiasaura who would, through Toltiir's special "programming", provide medical care for the commune. She and her group were pacifistic in nature, and Maia herself would suffer moderate psychosomatic breakdowns when confronted with violence. Other than that, she would eventually become one of the best practitioners of the medical arts, and familiar with all forms of Saurian anatomy and injuries that could be sustained with certain species.

Katy and Anna were examples of those who would make good martial artists, but weren't big brawlers, like Sam or Gordon. Both of them were members of a ninja clan of Velociraptors who would often "pounce" on visitors to the commune, especially lechers and perverts. Those that didn't fit these labels were sent back to the guest rooms, while those that were were taken to the shower rooms of the commune, stripped of everything but their underwear, and dumped into either the girls locker room (for boys) or the boys locker room (vice versa).

One of the safety valves for the commune to keep the carnivores from hunting the herbivores was the use of human hunting seasons, and the Rage Cage, which was something similar to the UFC. These matches were open to the public, and part of something that resembled a Mesozoic-themed casino and strip club deep underground. The gambling, booze (specially brewed to be extra potent [and be felt by the inhabitants of the commune] ), and dancing was only open to those who were 21 and over, but people who were 20 and younger could participate in a special arcade that gave tickets that could be turned in for ultra-cool prizes that couldn't be found anywhere else. The dancers (both male and female) at the underground casino often took special, herbal contraceptives so no one-night-stands would result in children (ignoring the fact that saurian and human DNA were incompatible)

All in all, it took over ten months for the Dinotopia Commune to be completed, by that time Ranma was back in school for the spring semester, citizenship rights were granted for the saurians, and the word "saurian" had expanded to include both humanoid marine and flying reptiles.
