"I hope I have enough for the night..." Vash muttered as he took another small handful of the herbs and threw them into the fire, making it rise in a large burst of flame as it took in the herbs.
Taking a whiff from the smoke as it blew into his face, Vash gagged. "Blah! No wonder monsters want to stay away from this smell."
Vash then continued to sit by the fire. He was keeping watch over the girl. She had been drugged by those villagers and was feverish for awhile. However, her fever had broken an hour ago, and she was now just sleeping. "I hope she's okay." Vash wondered.
Blinking, Vash felt a tickle in his nose and he sneezed. "ACHOO!!!" *SNURK*
It was then Vash heard a mumbling sound coming from the sleeping girl. "Oh shoot, I woke her up, didn't I?"
Lina opened her eyes slowly... "Nnnnn... Where am I?"
"Desert." Vash answered. "And sorry about waking you up. You need rest."
Lina sat up and looked around. It was night-time. There was lots and lots of sand. Yep. Desert. "But, how did I get out here? What happened to the city?"
"The people were going to burn you at the stake as a witch," Vash answered. "I saved you."
Lina blinked her eyes once, then twice. "You saved me?"
"Yep."
"YOU saved ME!?" Lina asked again.
Vash blinked his eyes. "Yes..."
Lina then sighed. "Oh, wow... I can't believe you did that? I'm mean, I'm still too young and pretty to be doing this sort of thing. Oh, please be gentle, will you?"
Vash blinked his eyes again. "Uh... Excuse me? What do you mean?"
Sighing, Lina answered. "It is a law in my village that when a person does a good deed for you, such as saving their life, then you HAVE to pay them back. In a woman's case, if she is saved by a man, then she usually has to marry him."
Vash blanched. "WHAAAAAAAT!?"
Lina sighed in slight disgust as well. "Yep. Basically, it's translated as, "A man saved you, woman? Prepare to give him a couple of Rugrats in return..."
Vash's eye twitched. "Er... You wouldn't possibly follow such a stupid notion..." Vash paled. "Would you?"
