Ryoko shivered as she sat there but it was obvious that it wasn't the cold that made her do so. "They killed my parents and now they keep on trying to kill me..."
"But why would they..."
Her voice became a whisper, and it was not him that she was really talking to. "We never saw them coming. I was too young to be told anything, but all I knew was that they just came out of no where. I can still hear the screaming and the crying as the explosions kept on happening. The bodies just sort of lay everywhere, just where they had fallen. I remember thinking that they were just sleeping you know, that someone only had to shake them awake to help. But they wouldn't let me.
"I can remember my parents' faces somewhat. That last look they gave me before they put me in that escape pod, with me yelling for them. I saw them get shot, my father having hit the launch button with just enough time to see them killed as my pod left the ship. They held hands you know.
"And I remember the pod, and how cold it was. That chill growing as my father hadn't been able to properly check the seals. Thinking that I was going to freeze to death all alone out there in the emptiness of space...
Tenchi's face had whitened during her ramblings. She had told him sob stories before, but this sounded different. Even only the simple brutality of it was way beyond her 'woe-is-poor-picked-upon-me' tales. And then there was the fact that she hadn't jumped him for comfort...
"But they won't let me alone. Every so often, an assasin will come to try to kill me. They never tell me why, but they're always coming after me. Someone keeps on sending them, but for what I don't even know. All I get is 'Lady Ryoko Shinku', and then, bang, I find myself trying to stop an assasin..."
"Ryoko..."
For a moment, her eyes closed, and then she:
