"So you cast a spell from some book and it caused son-in-law to be possessed by some ice demon?" Cologne shook her head. "What was the spell supposed to do?"
"Well, it was 'True Love Beacon', and it should have gotten Ranma to confess his love for Akane," grumbled Genma, who was quick to blame Ranma for it not working.
"That might have been a problem," said Cologne. "I know of that spell, though I don't have it handy. While it was working, every woman or girl who saw Ranma in male form would have immediately gravitated to him as their True Love. I suspect that in female form, he'd have males reacting in a similar fashion."
Two fathers and a lot of girls winced at the problems they had just avoided.
"At least until the spell wore off," said Cologne. "Do you have the book still?"
Soun produced it. What he didn't expect was Cologne's reaction. Which was to practically teleport as far away from where Soun was sitting as she could get.
"Are you INSANE?! That's the Bakamonicon!" Cologne asked, pulling out a cross and brandishing it. No, she wasn't Christian, but she kept one around for just such an emergency.
Much staring and odd looks as the various girls, guys, a piglet, and two men wondered what spooked the old ghoul.
"Hey boys, is there a party... AHHHHHHH! NOT THAT THING!!!" Happosai had just entered but started backing away. "Who is the IDIOT that would use THAT book?!"
Soun was beginning to think this book was useful. It repelled old ghouls and evil masters alike.
"Shampoo, Mousse, I'd suggest a brief vacation," Cologne said. "Tahiti sounds nice. I'll arrange transportation so that we're out of the area of effect of THAT. If they've already used it once, then they won't be able to easily rid themselves of it and I don't fancy dealing with the effects of the 'Magic For Dummies' book."
Nabiki bit off a piece of Pocky™ and considered. "What's wrong with this particular spellbook?"
"The Bakamonicon goes by many names and appearances, and any practitioner of lore or magic knows to avoid it. The spells within will often go right, but with side effects or costs that are unexpected. It is a cursed tome. If the two of them tried a spell for 'uniting the two houses' for example - the Saotome home might be transported on top of this one - crushing both houses. Or it might end up with the two fathers getting married. Or it might physically merge Ranma and Akane into one being. Or something even more horrible."
Nabiki took another bite of Pocky as the two fathers started going through the book, apparently looking for a "unite the houses" spell. "Hmmm. Tahiti, huh? Need a waitress?"
"Oh my!"
