"Thank you," Akane said with her own weak smile.
"Umm... my mother has put your stuff away, and got the extra bedding out."
"Thank you. For everything."
"You're welcome. Are you going to be okay?"
"I don't know. But I'll try."
"If you need me, I'll be right here."
"I know," the youngest Tendo told her and tried to look happy as she watched the other girl walk back into the kitchen. As she did so, the mask dropped and she took out the picture that she had kept. The boy shown there was still all alone and ignored by the kids enjoying a school recess.
She had no idea of how many times she had looked at it, but she knew that it was a great deal. Yet, even with what it told her, she could not help but keep on looking. It drew her attention in a way that she found hard to resist. With it and what she had read, she was left with much to think about.
If there was something that she had taken from her readings, it was that she had failed. All the time that she had thought that Ranma was acting like a little kid, he was, but not for the reasons that she had thought. The pigtailed boy had needed her, and she had failed him. When he had looked to her to be close to, she had all but shoved him into the arms of other girls.
Even now he had to go to some other woman to be helped, to be protected. That jerk probably didn't even realize how much he need someone to look after him, but she was pretty sure that she had really damaged her own chances to be the one to do so.
And she didn't even know where he was. So she was forced to beg Yuka for a chance to stay over for a few nights while she tried to figure out what to do next. That was something that she was not too sure about, but while she tried to come to some kind of plan,:
