The EMT who had thrown the sheet shushed her. "Yes you are. Be stone cold dead in a moment."
"I'm feeling a lot better," said Ranma, pulling the sheet from her face.
"Shut up! We already got customers lined up for your organs."
"I'm still using them!" Ranma protested.
"Not much longer," prophesied the EMT. "C'mon, don't be selfish. Just lie back and let it happen."
"Actually, I think I can stand up again." She groaned and sat up. "In a minute." She frowned at the EMT. "And anyway, I'm not even an organ donor."
"Oh yes, you are. We got the card and everything." He showed her a small card.
"I never signed that!" She peered closer at the card. "Who's 'Mimi Shinguuji' anyway?"
"That's gonna be you, in a minute, if you'd just cooperate and die already. Look around - can't you see some kind of bright light, pulling at you? Shoo, shoo! Go into the light!"
"I'm not seeing anything like that. I'm not dying. Look, I'm not even bleeding anymore."
"Hah! You see? That's the blood loss. Feeling a little faint, maybe? Ready to lie down and get it over with? C'mon, don't you want to go to a better place?"
"Anywhere away from you would be nice. I'm standing up now." Ranma heaved herself to her feet, wobbling for a few moments, before finding her balance.
"No no no no no!" admonished the EMT. "You're just not cooperating. Look, I'm a professional, so listen to me. You as a layman may have the mistaken impression that you are, in fact, alive, just because you're breathing and walking around, but I'm telling you that you're dead. It's just... uh... reflexes! Yeah, that's what it is. So you might just as well lie down and die with dignity, while we harvest your organs, Okay?" He grabbed her shoulders and attempted to push her back to the ground.
Ranma, having had enough of this, flattened him with a single punch to the nose. "Sorry, but I ain't got time for that. I gotta go see someone about removing a collar. Tell you what, why don't yo go ahead and die without me, and I'll join you later, when I'm ready." She turned away from the prone figure of the EMT and stalked off gingerly, favouring her wounds.
Another EMT approached and looked down at his fallen coworker. "Oi, Fred. Yer not gonna make it, right? Can we have yer liver, then?"
"I'b sdill usig id," said Fred, holding his bloodied nose.
"That's what they all say..."
