One of them was losing his limbs and growing thick scaly skin over his body, and the other seemed to be growing legs and a long segmented tail.
"Pick up a sword!" Kiyoko ordered as she slammed the clip into her gun. The Japanese girl cocked the pistol and aimed, and started firing.
She was pleased to note a few small sprays of blood fly from where she hit the warrior that seemed to be turning into a giant scorpion. Then she was out of bullets and moved to pick up one of the discarded swords.
Jeremiah had rushed over to where he had disarmed the first minion and picked up the sword while Kiyoko was shooting. By the time he turned around Kiyoko had emptied her clip into the scorpion and was picking up her own sword. Then the giant snake and scorpion lunged forward.
Jeremiah rolled away as the snake's head passed him and tried to catch the young adventurer up in its coils. Rolling underneath the snake, he slashed up and the snake reared in pain.
Jeremiah rolled to a stand and found a very angry snake wrapping itself around him in tight bundles.
Kiyoko found herself fending off three weapons, two claws and a tail. The tail and its poison concerned her the most, and she didn't waste much time before swiping up and through the tail just under the stinger. The scorpion chittered angrily and snapped out her with its great pincers.
Suddenly the creature just charged forward and slammed her into a wall, stunning her. The scorpion latched onto her sword arm and dragged her down so that it could easily place a pincer around her neck.
Jeremiah glanced over and saw the scorpion's stinger hit the ground and roll, and lunged, slashing with the sword to gain some slack in the snake's coils. The demonic serpent followed his motion and re-gained its total squeezing grasp. The snake leaned back to take its prey's feet off the floor, and felt something pierce its skin.
Jeremiah smiled as the snake began convulsing in pain, suddenly lacking the concentration necessary to hold its opponent. Jeremiah slid out and dropped the sword into the agonized snake's head.
As the snake minion was twitching in pain and on its way to its death throws, Kiyoko threw herself back, straightening her form to full height. She kicked her foot up, past the claw and then down, trapping the second pincer down on the ground.
The scorpion chittered anxiously as she reached up with her left arm and grabbed the sword from her right. Before the scorpion could get the first pincer free, the blade sliced into its exoskeleton.
"Okay, so where's the favor of the Gods?" Kiyoko asked impatiently wondering if her wrist had been crushed or not.

"They did it."
"..."
"You know what this means right?"
"Yeah."
The two beings chorused in a resigned voice.
"We're doomed."

"Maybe it's through the gateway," Jeremiah suggested. Kiyoko glanced at the already fading darkness and grimaced.
"I doubt-" Kiyoko's retort was choked by the sudden flash of light that passed through the entire chamber.
"What the hell?!" The pair, each already dealing with injuries, closed their eyes against the blinding light.
They felt themselves lifted from the ground, hovering. A burning sensation ripped through their bodies, causing an odd mixture of comfort and pain for several seconds, until suddenly there was darkness again.
