Lamp Of Mihoshi: Exiting the Pity Party, Stage Right (DARK) [Episode 40417]

by Brian Drozd

Weird didn't come close to describing the day Ranma had had. People he'd never considered remotely as fiancées had shown up, demanding a piece of his old man's carcass. He didn't know what the scariest part of it was: the fact that his so-called father had engaged him to some twenty plus women over the ten-year training trip; the fact that Tatewaki, Ryoga, Mousse, and a few other guys had been counted as fiancés; or the fact that Cologne had been considered a fiancée.

Still, it didn't matter in the end.

He was leaving.

He just couldn't take it. The submissiveness. The timidity. And worst of all the pity.

Everywhere he'd been today, it was the same story. Oh, pity the poor little boy whose father dumped on him. Pity the child who had been stolen from his mother. Etc. Etc. Ad nausium.

It happened every time anyone found out about everything his father had done to him over the years. That was the main reason he never talked about it - he didn't want anyone's pity. He was a martial artist, one of the best, if not the best, in the world. He'd killed a self-proclaimed god, damn it! He didn't need anyone's pity. He'd already extracted his retribution against his old man; it wasn't as if the panda could hold a candle to him anymore. His father hadn't been able to really in years.

But no. Everyone always treated him like some defenseless little puppy whenever they found out about his old man.

Ranma, cloaked deep within every stealth technique he knew, from his father's Umi-sen-ken invisibility to Dr. Tofu's tricks, was packing his backpack. He'd be taking only what he needed; the mementoes he'd collected of his stay here would be left forgotten.

All he'd wanted, all he'd ever really wanted, was a friend. Someone he wouldn't have to leave. But no one here was capable of being his friend it seemed. Now they all just pitied him.

With a lonely sigh, Ranma scanned the room that had been his for the last year, looking for anything he might have missed. Finding nothing, he turned and headed to the window. Jumping out, and landing upon the grass without a sound, Ranma was well hidden in the darkness of the night. With the new moon overhead, Ranma leapt over the wall surrounding the Tendo yard. He was going north; a few dojos that way had offered to take him in during the training trip. Hopefully one of them wouldn't have heard what kind of slime his old man was.

*****

In the genie realm, awaiting her next assignment, Mihoshi wept.
