Sailor Fighters: The obligatory flashback explanation [Episode 44119]

by Jamil Nate

Ranma was coming to, having only been stunned by Uranus and Neptune's attack. Seeing so many girls he didn't know surrounding him, he silently wished he knew who they were and what was going on...

The Great Will tattoo on his forearm briefly flared. Suddenly, Ranma got a full mental recap of the new History he created by wishing to have fiancees as nice as the Sailor Senshi. He fell back to the ground, groaning in pain, as the whole process gave him a mighty headache.

First, he knew he was still engaged to Akane, Shampoo and Ukyo with Kodachi chasing after him in the same manner as before. The competition had taken a fiercer turn , however, with nine additional fiancees who could casually wipe the floor with the Nerima-residing ones.

The only difference was that the training trip with his father had been international (not just limited to Japan and China) from the get-go and more connected to the various underground martial arts circuits such as the World Warriors and the King of Fighters tournaments. Genma couldn't pass up the opportunities for strong opponents and exotic fighting techniques in this particular setting.

Of course, Genma Saotome was still up to his old tricks and engaged his son left and right to fill his stomach, get his hands on various dowries or save his sorry hide, sometimes both at the same time.

Ranma met Mai Shiranui when he was training with her grandfather, the ninja master Hanzo Shiranui, in the bone-breaking techniques of Koppo-Ken. The two young children hit it off and Mai bonded with Ranma rather than Andy Bogard, the american boy being stiff and no-fun. Hanzo wanted new blood in the clan. Genma took advantage of it and engaged his son to Mai in exchange for several old martial arts scrolls.

Later in Hong-kong, Genma ran afoul of several unsavory figures and had left his son to fend for himself. Fortunately for him, Chun Li's father took him in. The cop had just enough time to teach Ranma a little of Wu-Shu and instill some morals in the young boy before his father stole him back. In order to get away, Genma had to promise his son in marriage to Chun Li and did it in a heartbeat.

Genma and Ranma headed for Thailand next. There, Ranma met a french boy named King who was training in the art of Muay Thai. Except that the boy wasn't a boy to start with. They became fast friends, training and sparring together. Their engagement was secured behind their backs when Genma was offered food for it. When King had been revealed to be a girl and publicly humiliated, Ranma had been there to comfort her as best as he could. Unfortunately, Genma took him away before anything else could happen.

Survival training in Hokkaido's cold mountains led to the encounter between Ranma and Nakoruru. The Ainu priestess had become an immortal nature spirit after Mizuki's defeat. When Genma had offered his son in marriage to escape his punishment at her hands (Ranma had babbled about the Neko-Ken), she surprisingly accepted, promising to come for him when he would come of age.

When Ranma turned 11, Genma took him to South America, looking for the best soldiers in the world: the Ikari Warriors! They found Heidern and his troops. No one knows why or how but he accepted training Ranma in special forces combat techniques. His adopted daughter Leona trained alongside him and developed something of a crush on her training partner. Knowing professional soldiers had trouble finding spouses ready for their lifestyle, Heidern and Genma (with help from some bottles of alcohol) engaged their children. Genma ran away with Ranma and the dowry (nazi gold the Ikari Warriors had 'liberated') soon thereafter.

A brief stint in Las Vegas led Genma to lose all that money in a flash. He was saved from a grisly fate at the hands of the Mob by none other than Morrigan Aensland. The succubus was fighting Felicia and losing when Ranma jumped in to save the 'pretty lady' from the nasty cat-monster (After the Neko-Ken, it was no wonder Ranma was a little biased) despite his fear. In exchange for paying off Genma's gambling debts, Morrigan was allowed to join Ranma's fiancees.

Ranma and Genma went back to Japan for a few years and left for China when he was 15. They did go to Jusenkyo but Ranma avoided being cursed. Thanks to Chun Li and her father, Ranma knew enough mandarin to know that the training ground of cursed springs was bad news. When Genma had plunged his arm in the spring of drowned panda to show his son that it was all superstitious nonsense, the following transformation convinced him it hadn't been one of his better ideas. Ryoga was still punted in the spring of drowned piglet, vowing vengeance again and Ranma defeated Shampoo, leading to the kiss of marriage.

Go straight to the Tendo dojo, get engaged to Nabiki then Akane (after the first kidnapping), meet Ukyo again and call her cute. His stay in Nerima was the same except for a few exceptions. Thanks to his training trip and new meetings, he was a lot more refined than the original Ranma. Having been exposed to powerful style and techniques, Ranma had no need for the techniques he possessed before, having traded them for others without the accompanying flaws.

Ranma had been in a foul mood when he got his hands on the broken and repaired Nanban mirror. Instead of curing his curse, he wanted to go back in time to get rid of all the engagements, starting by the amazon kiss of marriage. Too bad the mirror took him to the future instead, a dark future where the japanese people had almost been wiped out by living weapons born of Science and Magic, the Gears.

Ranma had wandered near the Devil's Grove and stumbled upon Dizzy's hiding place. Not knowing what she was at the time, he extended the hand of friendship. The Innocent Gear, desperate for some sort of human contact besides Testament after her isolation, eagerly accepted. When Ranma managed to go back to his own time, he took Dizzy's heart with him.

When the world of I-Praseru called for mighty warriors from other dimensions to fight the dark goddess Ihadurca, Ranma was selected and transported there. He defeated the other chosens and confronted Ihadurca in the Evil Zone. He didn't kill her, however. Realizing that the existence named Lea was possessing the human body of the Witch Ihadurca, Ranma found a way, with Kakurine's help, to exorcize her. In a humorous twist of fate, the kingdoms of I-Praseru engaged her to Ranma. They argued that only he could fight her should a relapse happen and he could keep her close that way. Since it was that or her execution, Ranma grudgingly accepted.

During his absence, the NESTS cartel had captured the best martial artists of Nerima (to Akane's chagrin, they had not considered her to be one) for experimentations and cloning. Genma had escaped after having promised to give Ranma to them as a breeding partner for Kula Diamond. After Genma had been beaten to a pulp, a typical Ranma rescue operation followed with the help of Ranma's fighter fiancees (Kula included). When the dust had settled, Ranma noticed that he had now nine fiancees added to the usual four.

That's when Akane, in a fit of rage, booted him in the air. He fell through the Cherry Hill temple's roof and met the sailor senshi in their civilian identities. He made his wish and the rest was History...

Ranma also knew why the outer senshi had attacked him. Pluto thought that the combination of him and his 'new' fiancees was an intolerable wild factor in her plans for the Future. Frankly, Ranma didn't understand why she was upset. The Sailor Senshi dealt with supernatural monsters while his group fought evil dictators, bloodthirsty martial artists and genetic monstruosities. Surely, there was enough place for two sailor teams, right?
