Centering herself in the calmness of the Force, Ranko signaled the communications officer and presented herself to the screen. Star Wars universes usually didn't have visual comms of this type, but apparently this one did, and as this one came online she felt the reassuring presence of her brother close by.
So he was just hiding, probably trying as hard as she was to get them out of this mess alive. That comfort considerably calmed her, making this easier.
The Star Destroyer, as unprepared to be in this mess as she was, followed the usual protocol of answering hails in the order of the largest ships first. While secondary and subordinate officers listened to the convoy and fighters, she got the captain.
Carefully mapping her features into a friendly 'business as normal' Imperial gaze, she greeted him with a lie so cultured and urbane it was amazing she could even deliver it. With a nod of her head, she supplied. "Greetings captain. One of our escorts was objecting to having customs search his ship. Apparently he forgot to list twenty tons of illegal spice on his cargo manifest. Would you care to assist in rounding up his fighters? It appears his flight officer was partner to this crime and has deluded his pilots into committing treason."
Ranko tensed. Their troops had actually taken the real cargo ships and most of the escorts, so they were silent and not accusing her. It all depended on...
