"You no scout yet," Shampoo said. "Ten minutes maybe heal fine."
"Hai, Shampoo-san," Kodachi said, who still felt rather sore all the way through. "I shall remain in reserve then."
Everyone was relieved at Kodachi's return to consciousness and relaxed as much as they were able.
"You can walk?" Shampoo asked Kodachi firmly.
"I can..." Kodachi started to stand up on her burned leg and then set herself down. "Mmph, not yet...almost."
Shampoo sighed and thought over the situation for a moment before nodded reluctantly as if coming to a difficult decision.
"We stay here for minute or two longer," Shampoo said. "Ukyou say vampire teacher distracted by something else in tunnel, lose our trail."
Nobody much liked the idea of waiting anywhere for very long, but they preferred that all of them be as combat ready as possible.
"Akane," a voice called out through unseen speakers. "Akane, can you hear me?"
"Nabiki?" Akane asked suspiciously, looking about.
"It trick," Shampoo warned.
"Oh good, you can hear me," Nabiki said. "Listen, I'm not sure I have time for specifics. You've got something calling itself an oni hunting you. Mamano, bone blades instead of arms. We've got another one trying to force its way out of that maze to us. And..."
Nabiki's voice paused and they could hear her swallowing over the intercom.
"Kasumi's dead," Nabiki said weakly. "Her...body's become one of them...she...its calling itself the Queen of the Dead. She's in charge."
"That...that...can't be," Akane said weakly.
"What go on here?!" Shampoo demanded.
"I'm here with some friends, Genma, Cologne, some Americans," Nabiki said. "We've got control of the control room. Problem is, the control lost control of everything before we got here. We're coming in when we can, but..."
There was a loud thudding sound coming from Nabiki's side of the connection.
"Shit, that's the third door," Nabiki said. "We've got our own troubles anyway...get moving now. The way you were going before!"
