In fact that was why he was here, figuring a loud explosion meant a magic user was nearby. Perhaps a magic user who knew the nearest way to town! Only there hadn’t been a magic user... only a lot of chunks of strange metal.
He walked along the strange metal, scratching his head. His pondering of the new addition to the forest was interrupted by a loud piercing scream. Eyes narrowing Gawin ran forward and then stopped. He saw a woman, odd she had pointed ears like the elves his family lore spoke about, was on the ground a troll about to bash her brains in.
“HYAAAHHH!” Gawin yelled distracting the troll, who whirled and swung its arm at the approaching swordsman. Gawin rolled under the swing and unsheathed the Sword of Light. His first slash disemboweled the troll. His follow up swing bisected it in a diagonal angle. Unable to compensate such grievous damage, the troll fell to the ground dead.
Gawin turned to the woman. He blinked in surprise when the woman wasn’t there, rather she was sobbing over a corpse nearby. He walked over to her and gently lifted her up. The woman looked up and jabbered at him in an unknown tongue, trying to pull away.
It took a while but eventually he managed to get her calmed down enough to fashion a makeshift sling for her arm and patch up the cut on her head. Gawin tried to lead the girl away, but she rushed away. Once again she collapsed sobbing next to the body. Gawin sighed... obviously there was only one thing to do...

Several hours later Gawin sat down at the campfire by the hulk of metal. The girl sat down next to him a few minutes later after looking over the 5 mounds in the earth. Gawin had buried the man and the four inside the wreck, even if he had never seen such creatures before. It seemed to calm the girl. After a few minutes he spoke. “You’re alone aren’t you?”
He didn’t need to hear an answer in the girl’s strange tongue to know it was the truth. “Alone, your friends dead... Don’t worry though. I’ll protect you. I Gawin Gabriev swear on the honor of my ancestors I will protect you and keep you save!”
Having made his declaration, Gawin sat back down and handed the girl some food. It wouldn’t be so bad keeping her safe, besides she was kind of cute.
