Lightning struck and left behind two figures.
Khatraa, greatest of sha'ir, ignored the nearly emaciated slave as she considered the view from the rooftop. Over there was some sort of temple with a few scattered trees and that was where her prey was... apparently having a party.
"Mistress," breathed the ring slave, "I tire..."
"I have taken your name from you, slave. I have taken your freedom. Keep it up and I shall take from you your tongue," Khatraa said pleasantly to her djinni.
The nameless djinni shuddered. She had seen some of the others who had displeased the Mistress. There was no way for her to regain her name if she tried to escape, and then where could she run? A djinni had little power unless she served a mortal, and the mistress would hunt her down as she had one of the others. No, she dared not, though with another sha'ir apparently nearby there was hope. Even if fleeing meant that her name would be lost to her forever.
"KARNA!" Khatraa growled.
"Yessss, misstresss," hissed the snake familiar.
"Go over there and observe what is occurring. Report back to me. I would know what I need to defend against when I claim my genie!" The sha'ir smiled cruelly. She had crushed the independence of many powerful djinni. Now these nine, more powerful than any, would increase her strength to what it should have been long ago!
"Yesss, misstress," hissed Karna as the snake began the task.
