Many of the herbivores were social. Not only did they have packs of their own, it was in their mutual interest to cooperate especially in the instance of the carnivores. Nesting sites were of particular importance and shared.
"KRUUUUUUUUUU," announced a critter that Akane wasn't immediately able to identify as an anklyosaur. She felt an instant affinity somehow for the slow moving critter with the armored back and the club tail. Why, she couldn't say.
Also entering was another critter that had plates on its back that moved up and down with contractions of the muscles along its spine, and had a tail with some painful looking spikes at the end.
The pack of velociraptors would have been able to flip the club-tail or shred the spike-tail on their own. With the restless herd of tri-horns and the soft-skin not being as soft as expected - they were uncertain as how to proceed.

The raptors all took an attentive look and went still. Just what they didn't need.
Akane was really really wondering where the heck she was now. Dinosaurs were crawling out of the woodwork!
She idly swatted some large lizard that had snuck in and was going after dinosaur eggs.
"Where the hell am I now?!"
"Ryoga?" Akane thought for a second. Nope, now was not the time to punch him into next week and demand what he knew about P-chan's disappearance. "Over here!"
"Akane?" Ryoga looked around again. "This isn't a Sleestak ruin, is it?"
"Do you have a spare shirt?" Akane had noticed that Ryoga was wearing clothes again and her own bra and panties weren't doing that well. She'd be embarassed about her lack of attire later. Right now she was tired and hungry and inadvertantly playing "Jane of the Jungle."
Boom
Akane shrugged the shirt on and uttered those famous words that indicated all heck was about to break loose. Or something to that effect. "I've got a bad feeling about this."
Not only the raptors but the rest of the dinosaurs had gone still.
Boom
The pond developed circles. Pebbles shifted and slid.
"That didn't sound closer, did it?" Akane asked as she grabbed a small sack that Ryoga had pulled out of his pack while getting the shirt. Those eggs would be a lot safer here.
Boom
"K-k-k-k-k-k," warned the big spikey tailed thing.
"Don't worry, Akane, I'll protect you!" Ryoga boasted. This was just what he needed for Akane to forget about what had happened in the furo. He'd just save her from whatever was approaching.
Boom!
