Parents And Children - Wild Dragons: Memories [Episode 57598]

by Thrythlind

Ukyou stood in her store and looked across the store, staring at the seat her...friend had sat so many times and remembered some of the relatively recent things that she had heard from Ranma's mouth. After the red-head had been stuck in girl-form for a little over two years.

"Ukyou...I've got some news you're not going to like," Ranma had said as she broke the news of her impending engagement. "I'm getting married."

Ukyou had berated him and demanded to know which of the girls it was, and then she'd taken it as a bad joke when Ranma finally told her. Until the ceremony, of course.

And he hadn't even asked her to be one of the bridesmaids. She could see why now, remembering things she hadn't wanted to listen to at the time.

"Wouldn't that kinda have been mean of me?" Ranma had asked when the subject had off-handedly come up a year or so later.

Ukyou hadn't been paying attention then, she'd been listening for other things. Listening for bits of information to rationalize her decision. The same conversation had given her a little bit of info on why Ranma had chosen what she had.

"I don't know, maybe it was the curse starting to work on me, but I realized something," Ranma had said.

"What was that?" Ukyou asked.

"If I ever got married as a guy, I'd be ruining my honor and the honor of a whole bunch of other people," Ranma said. "Thanks to my pops, my girl side was the only option I had left."

"So your lock," Ukyou said. "It wasn't an attack or an accident."

"No, I got help from Herb for that," Ranma admitted.

"So all that talk about looking for a cure was a lie," Ukyou had responded, feeding on the part that supported her emotions. "You never intended to change back, you lied to us, strung us along."

"Yeah," Ranma said. "Sorry about that...I thought you'd all take it easier that way."

"Right, Ranma, sure," Ukyou said. "So did Herb get your cherry right then, or did somebody else beat him to it?"

"Ukyou..."

"How many times have slept with guys, Ranma?" Ukyou asked.

"I'll come back later," Ranma had said firmly, and left the door.

"Go ahead and do that you fairy, see what you get!" Ukyou shouted after her.

She didn't see Ranma until a few months later. When the red-head came in looking nervous. Ukyou knew why of course, but she wasn't about to admit it.

"Ukyou," she'd long since stopped calling her Ucchan.

"What are you doing in here?" Ucchan snapped angrily.

"I need some help," Ranma said quietly. "Look, I don't know who to trust, but something's going on. I think somebody's trying something, but I'm not sure who or what?"

"And what do you want me to do about it?" Ukyou demanded, turning back to her cooking.

"Can you have Konatsu do some looking?" Ranma asked. She leaned forward as if to impart some great secret. "Look, this serious you don't know what is at stake..."

"A little elevator trouble and you get paranoid," Ukyou snapped.

"I never said nothing about no elevator," Ranma growled suddenly and Ukyou knew she'd said too much. The red-head stood up straight and stalked cautiously out of the store. "Ukyou, don't let me see you again."

And that had been the last time Ukyou had seen Ranma in a relatively non-hostile setting.

The entire irony of it. The woman she'd set out to kill, with the plan that she and Kodachi had contrived, had come to her for help before the end. She'd even given the red-head some with that slip about the elevator.

Any greater slip and she'd might have let on to Ranma that the other girls had been involved. In that case, they would have been doomed.

And now...Ukyou wished she had slipped that information.

Wished she had, accidentally or otherwise, given the woman the information that would have saved her and her husband from death...and the fiancees from sin.

But it was far too late...
