“We need a hero, Ranma,” stated Belldandy. “This was just a test of your character.”

“How the HELL is making me think I had to marry Kuno a test!?” demanded Ranma.

Bell smiled at his outburst, and placed a soft has on his shoulder. “I know that to you marrying that young man would be a fate worse then death. That’s why I asked. You took the responsibility upon yourself rather ‘doom’ another to that face. It was a test to see how much you were willing to sacrifice for the good of others. The willingness to sacrifice anything for the sake of others is what defines a true hero. And you passed the test.”

“So, that means I’m a hero… I guess,” Ranma sighed and looked at her. It was obvious that this little test had shaken him. “What now? What do you mean by true hero?”

“A true hero is the kind of person that is sung about for thousands of years, like Beowulf and Ulysses. A man who’s heroic deeds will be sung about for all of time. You Ranma, have to potential to be the greatest hero of the modern age.”

Ranma just gawked at her. Him, a hero of myth and epic? He had always hope to be the best, but the greatest hero of the age?!

In a rough, chalky voice Ranma said, “What do I have to do?”

Bell smiled widely. “Oh, you just have to finish an epic quest first! Then we’ll start the REAL hero stuff!”

“What kind of test?” asked Ranma

“Oh, father sent it with me, written down right here...” Bell pulled out an envelope, opened it, and read the contents out loud.

“You just...”
