"Thanks," Nabiki said. "It means a lot to me that you're all here." Nabiki smiled as she took her glass and drank from it, looking across at her elder sister and the man at her side.
It was about time that Tofu got over his silliness to ask her sister out, and Nabiki kept hoping a wedding would come about soon. Kasumi wasn't getting any younger, after all. And that made her think about her own life as she pushed closer to thirty without a solid relationship in her life. Her gaze turned to Akane and she did her best to keep it appearing friendly and warm.
"So, you've got a new movie in the works I hear," Nabiki said.
"That's right," Akane said, happy to get off the subject of police and such. "It just goes to prove that an independent can be just as successful as a large company."
Nabiki scoffed, Akane's movies were as well funded as any major Japanese studio's, and Nabiki had a guess as to where the money came from. The same place Ukyou got the money to start a chain.
"This new one isn't going to be like the last movie you produced and directed, is it Akane?" Kasumi asked. "That was rather disturbing."
"No, no," Akane said. "We've got a romance in the works this time. And that last one wasn't to my taste either, but we need to make money and slashers sell."
The newest Tendo, the sisters' half-brother put in his own commentary.
"Sister," he said cheerfully grabbing Akane's shirt. As usual when the child was placed near Akane, and did something similar, she winced lightly, uncomfortable at the attention from Ranma's half-brother.
"Oh," Nodoka sighed. "If only my daughter and grandchildren could be here to see this."
Akane and Nabiki froze at that comment and mulled it over. But then Nodoka sighed and shook off the melancholy to move to some other subject, and they both dismissed it as a woman's wishful thinking.
They wouldn't think anything of it again until...
"Now, now," Nodoka said calmly removing
