That had involved lots of traveling, and interviews, but they had just closed the case. Which was a wonderful thing for her feet, as they had been killing her. So, once her shift was over, she headed home to relax and enjoy herself.
Though she did have to admit that it wasn't going to be home for much longer. When she had moved in, she had always known that it would be temporary. Oh, her parents had problems with her moving out, saying that she could just as easily stay there. But she had needed the chance to spread her wings and leave the nest, even if she was going to be living with a bunch of her fellow officers.
Still, with her promotion, she was getting better pay, and as such, could afford her own apartment. She'd gone and put a down payment on one as soon as she could, making it all hers. Soon, she'd move into her place, and have it all to herself, not that she wasn't going to miss her neighbors. They were going to have a 'moving away party' for her the next day, and were likely to show up at her 'housewarming' party the next day.
Which was why her place was filled with boxes, and other such things. All her belongings were packed away for shipping, save what she needed for the time until then. That made the place rather cluttered, though it wouldn't be able to fill her new place. Oh, it wasn't as big and spacious as Akane's, or her parent's home, but it was enough for her.
However, all her moving preparations didn't leave much in the way of entertainment. Her usual pastime when alone of tracking down leads on what had happened to Ranma, her husband and children, wasn't possible as she had made sure that her files were safely packed away. The books, including the odd manga that she might pick up on a lark, were in another pair of boxes.
So she picked up the newspaper that she had picked up on her way home, and started scanning the pages. For the most part it was nothing that she hadn't seen before. Political scandals, financial doings and the occasional famous person getting into trouble were always the same, with only the names changing. Sports wasn't her thing, but she did find that her favorite singer was to be putting out a new record.
However, she didn't find something that really peaked her intrest... until she saw the picture. It was of a local festival that had been going on in one of the small towns in one of the county prefectures. The shot looked like all of the others that she had seen of such events. Crowds milled about, looking through the stalls of the festival.
And in one part of that mass of people, she saw a group of faces that were instantly recognisable. Not that she had seen some of them, but she couldn't mistake who they were. After so many years of searching, this single image gave her what she had been looking for.
It was going to take some doing, but she was certain that she was close to the goal that she had set for herself during that time. She was going to have approach it carefully, so that when she did it, she made no mistakes. There couldn't be a single one at all.
