"Well?" she demanded impatiently.
"Okay," he said, taking a deep breath, "This is what I know and think happened. There were four girls who all were around your mother at all times. Sometimes they drove her crazy, sometimes she came to them. But they all had a personal stake with her and what she did."
"What sort of 'stake'?"
"Ummm... Well... With one it happened that your mother had accidentally did something that resulted in that girl not being able to return to her village without her. The second was someone whose family had an arrangement with to cement an alliance. Number three had been friends with her in childhood when your grandfather sort of... stole their yattai and made the girl go on a vengence quest after them. But when she got here, she learned that your mother didn't know about it and they fixed their relationship, as far as we knew. And the last one was someone who thought that your mother had done something to a boy that she was interested in." He did wonder about including Akane, but ever since Ranma's death she had been acting very strangely everytime he saw her.
"So what happened?" asked the girl.
"Your mother married your father, and as far as I know, they took it badly. Three of them thought that she was rejecting them and their problems and the last thought that it was the latest insult to the memory of her so called 'love'."
"And they killed her for that?"
"It's possible. Ranma could be trusting, and there was little to no way that she would have been in that building when it blew if she had a choice. There is a possibility that she had thought that they wanted to talk things out, or something like that, and then..."
"I see... Where are they now?"
"Well, that resturant that we nearly went in is one of many that began from the one that one of the women owned. Another has gotten into movies, and the third is still at the same resturant that she used to work at. The last was born rich and still lives at home."
"You're sure that they did it?"
"I believe that it is possible, but I can't be sure. I mean, they are the only ones who would have had a real problem with your mother's marriage and it might be one, two, three or all of them," Ryouga told her and then watched as the girl's small hands fisted on the tabletop. Her face pulled into a frown as they sat there and he waited for her to do something while:
