You could hear the world screaming.
Typhon had been reborn.
Of course, there were military forces available. They were scrambled within moments of the appearance of the gargantuan blip on radar screens. When the pilots were able to convince the ground control that they had not been watching too many Gojira movies and the reports had begun accumulating as to the growing area of no communication, missiles were launched.
The problem was that nothing they had was really effective against a target of that size surrounded by hurricane intensity winds and raining acid below it. Typhon was THE force of incarnate destruction that had taken Zeus getting backed up by the rest of his pantheon to chain below Mount Aetna.
Set loose by stupidity and greed, it would take more than the JSDF to contain it again.
Still recovering from a long imprisonment, Typhon was relatively small yet. A few hundred thousand feet tall and long. It took entire minutes for him to extend himself out to a length of five miles and a width of three miles.
Typhon roared in a terrible voice, made more terrible by the hundred heads atop his body. Heat emanated from within his form combusted the air itself where it came near, surrounding him with not only flame but hurricane force winds.
It had been a terrible and fear-filled few minutes. Those fast enough looked back at where the Furinkan ward was simply gone - a red glowing crater with a Thing in the air overhead that looked like some surrealistic nightmare.
"THAT is one ugly sucker," said Ranma between gasps for breath as sweat continued to pour off of him.
"Ranma! You've got to go stop that thing!"
Ranma blinked, turned to one of the people he'd just carried and gaped at her. He made a few gestures towards the distant figure and made a noise that sounded vaguely interrogative. Finally he managed something. "Akane, did Kodachi give you something funny to eat?"
"But Dad... and Mister Saotome..." said Akane trying not to think of what this was. Also looking very hot and sweaty and exhausted.
"It initially was directly over where our house was," said Nabiki. "Do you suppose our fathers, or Happosai? Who did it?"
"Our house?" Akane asked.
"Fear not, Akane, I shall slay the foul beast," said Kuno.
"Be my guest," said Ranma. If this was something like the Yamato-no-Orochi - sure he'd kick its lily white behind. This didn't have a behind that he could see though admittedly it was a heck of a distance away. "Oh man. That sucker's throwing off lightning blasts?!"
"Kuno-baby, why are you still here?" asked Nabiki, not particularly wanting to see him die but a little surprised he was still there after that declaration.
"It must have enchanted mine feet through some foul sorcery, trapping me here," said Kuno. "HA! Foul beast! You are well to fear the might of the Blue Thunder!" WHAM! "That didn't hurt." THUD!
Akane retracted her dainty fist from where she'd shut up the annoyance. "Can't you do something, Ranma?"
"Uhm, 'good shot'?" tried Ranma.
"I meant about the monster!" pointed out Akane.
Ranma stared (and wheezed and gasped) for a moment (at Akane) before keeling over.
"I guess carrying four people and running five miles in two minutes was about his limit," diagnosed Nabiki.
"Most ominous," said Miyo. "This location is safe for now. He will go towards the greatest threat to him, which lies in another direction."
"So that's you - who managed to get here ahead of the rest of us somehow," began Nabiki, counting the number of people gathered on the hilltop. "Ranma carried myself, Sayuri, Miss Hinako, and Akane. Kuno got here on his own but arrived behind Ukyo who was carrying Yuka."
"Furinkan is melting," said Ryonami, lowering a pair of binoculars she had for spying on people.
"What do you mean 'melting'?" asked Nabiki, holding out a hand for the binoculars. After a moment of study she lowered them again. "Okay, so that thing is hot enough that it's melting rock and flash-frying wood. I think we're probably it as far as the school goes. I don't know if anyone else could have gotten away in time."
Ryonami nodded.
"That thing must be a delinquent!" declared Miss Hinako.
"If you get close enough to try and drain chi," pointed out Nabiki, "your coins will melt. Not to mention your skin will get awfully dried out."
"Oh," said the chibi Hinako. "That would be bad."
"Now what?" asked Ryonami, looking at Nabiki but directing her question to anyone who would answer.
