But since he had some experience with fighting by then, he knew what he had to do. He stayed perfectly still, knowing that any shift in his Eva's movement could get him into trouble. That it keep him from having to touch the big amorphous blob thing was a definate bonus. So he continued watching, seeking out some sort of weak spot.
At the same time, he had to keep it contained. He knew that he had to keep it from running off again and causing more trouble. So he moved slightly, hoping that the thing wouldn't notice. It was too busy sending awful screams his way, and he managed to get the electron cage without too much danger. Picking it up, he waited for the moment that he could use it... and then it stayed still for just a moment. That was all that he needed to slam the cage over it.
Then it changed again and he saw it, a clear shot to the core. The giant purple biomechanical fighter ducked down and swung his progressive knife in an upwards stab. It went up straight at his target... which mutated at the same time, sending an energy beam at the attack.
Which happened to be when his strike hit into it, somehow splitting the point where the beam originated from, and sending the energy in all directions. Realising that he still had a chance, he pushed the knife deeper, carving the blob in two while he went for the core. Black mutating 'flesh' wrapped around his Eva's hand, but he didn't give up.
His determination paid off as the blade hit into the core with enough force to cut into it. The knife sank deep into the orb, and was aided by his Eva's other hand pushing on the back of it. With a last flash of light and a bizarre cry, it fell to the ground, defeated.
Pulling back and free of the creature, Shinji let out a puff of breath and felt his heart go back to normal.
*"Mission accomplished,"* came the Vice Commander's over the comm channel, *"Come back in."*
Sparing a glance towards the defeated Angel, the Third Child shivered for a moment before returning to the Geofront while:
