Faerie King Ranma: Acceptable losses [Episode 66543]

by Kestral

"So," asked the wolf companionably as he led the obviously included by mistake girl towards the Exit. "Why chu engaged this Ranma guy? Mebbee I is not that familiar with it but I thought humans usually proposed because they loves each other or something. Si?"

"That's if they have a choice," explained Akane, who correctly deduced that a wolf would have very different standards of courtship. "Our parents decided this before we were born!"

"Then how they know if chu could even stand each other?" The old wolf scratched his fringe along the jaw in thought. "Oh, there my second cousin on my father's mother's sister's side. Big Bad Wolfe."

Akane stared for a moment at the wolf in biker leathers working on a humongous damn motorcycle.

"Guten tag," said Big Bad as he looked up for a moment.

"Uhm. Hello," said Akane, trying not to stare now.

"So chu got roped into dis completely without a choice in it," said Juan sympathetically as they walked past the garage. "That not sound fair."

"It isn't!" Akane exclaimed. "It's all about combining the Houses of two martial arts families. Then that baka..."

Seeing his companion getting all worked up, Juan was curious. "He no treat you nice?"

"NO!" Akane's outburst knocked leaves off nearby trees. "He's always calling me 'uncute' and making fun of my cooking!"

"I no understand, senorita," confessed Juan. "Chu is martial artist type. Hai karate and like, si?"

"No, I don't see. What don't you understand?" Akane grumbled. Thinking about all the stupid things Ranma did was upsetting her stomach.

"If chu is martial artist, why chu want be cute? Not sound like combination work," said the wolf. "If chu is martial artist - mean you tough cookie, know how fight - is dangerous. If cute - mean harmless si?"

Akane started to answer. Stopped. Started to answer again. Stopped. Got thoughtful. Finally she decided on a typical answer for dealing with foreigners whether wolves or not because the implications of that idea were simply too confusing to deal with at the moment. "It's a Japanese thing, you wouldn't understand."

"Ah, well, senorita, here you go," said Juan, pointing to a door hanging in midair. "Is a back door. Take care, senorita, and good luck. Chu will need it."

Akane huffed and walked out the door, her usual stubborness regarding any admission of feelings on her part going full tilt.

With a soft click, the door in mid-air closed and faded away.

Akane's eyes widened as she took in her own backyard of her own home. Meaning that she was out of the race, having convinced the wolf that she had no rational reason for being there in the first place.

"RANMA YOU IDIOT!" Akane yelled at the Heavens.
