Ranma’s head wiped around in surprise, while Kyoko scrambled for her mask.
“She is not a snake, old man,” snarled Ranma.
Kisada growled at his son’s disrespect. “Tell me boy, was it this woman who told you to go into battle without your armor?”
“No.” replied Ranma, “I removed my armor because it was too cumbersome. It would only slow me down.”
“And what of your Jade?” added Kimuri.
Ranma winced. “I was so anxious to prove my worth that when the gong ran, I cast off my cumbersome armor and ran into battle. I forgot that I was wearing my jade amulet over my breast plate. In my rush I took it off as well.”
“Stupid,” snarled Kisada. “How could a son of mine be so stupid?! Would you mind telling me how your armor would slow you down?!”
Ranma shrugged. “My style is based on speed and agility.”
“Do you take me for a fool son?” growled the Great Bear. “You were educated in the Hida school. You lie.” His eyes narrowed with rage. “Now tell me the truth, why did you forsake your armor!? Was it the ghost of Doji Hotei? Did your Scorpion whore put you up to it?! TELL ME!”
