Elfguest: Ryoga's problem, Nabiki's decision [Episode 68783]

by Kestral

"Okay, he's coming around, his eyes are opening... there he goes again!" Oakthistle put her hands on her hips and just hovered there looking frustrated. "What is with this spurt of blood out of his nose and falling asleep?! This is getting quite annoying!"

"Maybe it's a curse," suggested one of the elves. "I've heard of some pretty bizarre curses getting laid on people."

"He goes and rescues us, breaks our chains, and then can't even look at us?!" Oakthistle might have been about the size of the average computer monitor screen, but she had over five feet height in sheer annoyance right now. "What kind of hero did we get stuck with?!"

"Has to be a curse of some kind," repeated the elf. "Danithelle?"

"I'd need access to a spellbook, and you know darn well they burned mine," said yet another elf. "Dieja?"

"Aw, c'mon. We've got a hero who faints whenever he looks at a gal," said the tiefling, "a tiefling ranger, a wisemouth pixie, nine elves grabbed during surface raids, a cleric whose tongue was cut out so she couldn't cast spells, a galatean, and a #$#@! paladin."

"Please don't curse like that," said the aasimar.

"We don't find a cleric soon, we're all gonna be #$!@#, or did ya think that golem mage didn't put a tracker on us?" The tiefling ranger spat off into the bushes. "Hey waitasec. He's got a pack full a goodies over there."

"Dibs on a shirt," said the aasimar. "Please?"

Sanri tried to explain exactly what was needed. She was a bit put off in that Kasumi didn't know a lot about those girls from the previous night, that there were no shops selling spell components, and that idea of priest spells was apparently unheard of.

Kasumi found herself trying to shift to Elvish when the elf's spell ran out and wondered if she could learn magic.

This lead to a brief lesson in spellcraft and Kasumi entertaining images of herself as Galadriel.

Sanri had wanted to spend more time discussing their inability to get their Master to relax around them, but guessed there would be time later and this human girl had been helpful so she'd try to assist her in learning magic if it was possible.

Yes, Kasumi could see it now - Kasumi the Gray. She'd be the wise elder sister who would give the heroes a clue as to how to go about rescuing princesses and the like.

Nabiki was mercenary, she wasn't one to let conventional morality bother her if it would get her a few more yen.

She sold pictures and took bets and sold information, but it all seemed... less rewarding somehow.

Last night she'd seen an urban legend. The Sailor Senshi versus a monster. Not a martial artist. Not a prop monster. A real giant spider with webbing and eyebeams and everything.

After lunch she still pondered it. The idea that she could have been changed by having a giant crystalline pink heart whacking her in the head was given up as a delusion from the panic of the moment.

Which brought it to Nabiki deciding that the reason why she wasn't satisfied with her usual stuff was that it was pretty small change stuff. She brought in a few thousand yen on a good day. That had been something to be proud of.

Now she was dealing with elves, monsters from beyond, urban legends come to life, and something that she thought that nobody else had caught - the possibility of very bad guys coming after the two elves.

This wasn't small time, this was big time.

What Nabiki decided to do was:
