Asuka looked at Rei and asked, "I've been meaing to find out what the wind-up doll felt about being turned into a genie."
Re thought long and hard before replying. "I think the word is grateful."
"Huh?"
Rei explained, "Before I was turned into a genie, I lived mostly in that old apartment. In my gem, I feel something nice. Maybe I feel secure. That is why I do not mind being shut up inside the gem. I have better living conditions."
Rei looked at her 'sister' and continued, "Before, I had no relatives. Now, I have you and Amethyst/Misato as sisters so to speak. Also, the only goal I had was to pilot an EVA. I now serve Master Shinji as my main goal."
Asuka spoke slowly, "So Sapphire, what you are saying is that for you, being turned into a genie was really the best thing that happened to you?"
Rei nodded. "Yes. There are some things I want to tell Master Shinji, but I do not know how yet."
"Like what?"
Rei hesitated. "I would rather only say it once. It is something that deals with my time before becomming a genie."
Asuka nodded. "I see. There is something that Amethyst knows about me that Master does not. I still feel hesitant about telling him about that."
Rei said, "Amethyst was wrong. We do have self-will, we just can't go against what Master Shinji orders us to do. Both of us are still hiding things from him and probaby Amethyst is as well. It's just that Master Shinji's order forced her to act a certain way durong a cruical time."
Asuka bit her lower lip and thought about it. "I guess your right."
