Lillith - not on the cross anymore and all the secret video pickups had been mysteriously disabled.
A car sent to collect Shinji, Rei, Asuka, and Misato had reported scenes of some violent encounter in Rei's apartment and no sign of the pilots.
A mysterious flu spreading that had members of NERV on sick call.
"Anomalous readings from the Eva units!" one of the replacement bridge workers declared.
"My day just keeps getting better and better," muttered Gendo in a voice dripping with sarcasm.
"The Angel submerged again! No, it's on the move! The Angel is approaching the city! Depth 500 meters!"
"My cup runneth over," muttered Gendo in a voice so full of sarcastic loathing that it seemed to hang in the air like a grease fire's smoke.
"It's approaching the Geofront from below!" announced Ichiro.
Gendo considered telling the fool to remove those silly "bridge bunny ears", but he was low on staff at the moment.
"Eva unit 01 is self-activating!" announced Nijiro. "Let's see, where's the right switch?"
"Hello anata."
The replacement bridge crew stared at each other.
"Incoming communication from Unit 01? But there's no one in it," said Sanjiro.
"... yui... " breathed Gendo, recognizing the voice instantly. "... but it can't be."
"We'll talk about this later. Dear."
Gendo Ikari, heartless bastard that he was, for a brief moment felt the meaning of fear. Hadn't she insisted on going in there, knowing what could happen? Hadn't Shinji been her idea? Hadn't she agreed to everything that might be necessary?
"Visual restored," announced Ichiro.
Standing there was the usual purple horned Evangelion unit, the LCL dripping off of it as it finishing stepping up onto the metal floor.
Bracing its legs apart, the Eva unit slowly brought arms out to the sides. Gold fire burst from seams in the armor.
The pieces of armor came apart in that light, reforming into a different sort of outfit.
Gendo stared, his cool completely blown. It was Yui. As an Evangelion sized catgirl. Worse, it was Yui as a giant catgirl _______.
