He grumbled as the phone rang again and started to sit up.
"I thought we left the early morning wake-ups in New York," Ellen said sleepily as she moved to make it easier for him to sit up.
"Probably some kids doing something stupid," the police chief reassured her. He picked up the phone and set it to his ear. "Hello."
"Hello? Chief," the deputy's voice called on the other end of the line. "We just had a report of a shark attack."
"What? How bad?" he asked.
Behind him, his wife woke up a little more and turned to look at him.
"Fatal, Chief," the deputy said. "It's out where those early mainlanders are having the bonfire. The caller didn't leave a name."
Brody thought about and sighed.
"An anonymous shark attack report?" the chief said. "Who needs to make an anonymous call about that? Look, it's probably a prank, but meet me here and we'll check it out."
"Right, chief," the deputy said, clicking the phone down on the other end.
"What's going on?" Ellen asked, sitting up.
"Someone reported a shark attack," Brody said. "Probably nothing."
"Oh," Ellen looked relieved. "For a moment I thought it was going to be a murder or something like it."
"Nah, we clear of the dangerous stuff, honey," Brody said, smiling.
