Overnight he listened to Rio talking to a tree, and it was only when the tree answered back that Ranma thought it unusual enough to comment on.
"That's cool, a talking tree, huh?"
Rio jumped at Ranma's sudden appearance and stared when the words registered. The tree-guy stared.
"So, Rio, I was hoping you could give me a decent name for the Pixie here. I mean somethin' other than Tinkerbell or some such. Figured maybe you could ask her."
"Qwee?" Pixie asked.
Rio just continued to stare.
"Young man from another world," said the tree in a deep rumbling voice. "Do I understand correctly that when confronted with a Spirit Tree such as myself and with Rio's ability to speak with monsters, your summation of these events is 'cool'?"
"Uhm, yeah," said Ranma. "Compared to turning into a girl with cold water, being chased by Chinese Amazons, groped by a three hundred year old oompa loompa, and the other stuff in the life I had? This ain't nothing."
Rio seemed to go off into deep thought about something.
"Qwee?"
"Because little one," said the tree. "I am indeed the oldest Spirit Tree in this world and I can sense that this boy came from an entirely different world."
"Qwee..."
"So I should name her 'Squeaky' then?" Ranma asked, pointing at the half-sized girl.
"QWEEE!"
"Try 'Aura'," suggested the tree.
"That'll work," agreed Ranma. "Though I obviously ain't working her hard enough if she can spend all night out here."
"QWeeeeeeeeee-" trailed off the squeal as the Pixie sped for the shack at high speed.
"And I spent a lot of the day tryin' to make that shack so it won't fall apart," said Ranma. "So I need my sleep. You two can talk all ya like, just keep it down a bit, will ya?"
"It shall be as you say," agreed the tree.
