To feel their bodies go "splut" and become red goo. First Nabiki joined with Akane and both of them knew each other totally and completely. The spurts of red goo joined another and the Tendo family had been reunited in a way that was most unpleasant. Then they knew Genma Saotome in just as intimate a fashion.
The trickle of goo helplessly rolled along, eventually joining more and more of it, until there was nothing but a stream of undifferentiated goo that collected with the other goo and became the sea.
Their mother was present. Everyone who had ever lived was present. Everyone who had drawn breath. No one was spared no matter how long they'd been dead. However anything that had made them special had been stripped of them by this joining and there was no differentiation. Lowest common denominator was all that was left.
Crowds became mobs. Mobs were neither intelligent nor noble, the brightest lights of humanity submerged beneath the filth that coated the mass. Every dark thought, every dirty deed, every secret - all exposed. Individuality was no longer possible - just a descent into gibbering madness and a crippled form of immortality.
The Scream. Everyone was screaming and that was all anyone could do. Without a mouth even that release was denied so that the Scream merely echoed within the bestial madness that was the Sea.
Then there was a flicker and they reappeared in their own home, naked and slime-drenched, the experience seared into their beings.
"That is what I came from," said Misato.
The pale and shaking forms of the four travellers slowly ascertained that they were back in their own bodies. Then:
