Second Chances, Ltd.: Misato of the Lamp [Episode 82461]

by Kestral

Ranma swallowed nervously and applied the lamp tattoo to himself.

Then he went home, gave Kasumi her birthday present and tried to figure out how he was going to explain the genie thing.

"Flirting with Kasumi now, Ranma?" said Akane with a hostile look.

Nabiki smirked. "Didn't get Akane anything, Ranma? I suppose that means you'll be switching the engagement over to Kasumi now."

"WHAT?!" Ranma asked. "Where'd you get an idea like that?!"

"Oh, so you're saying Kasumi isn't good enough?" Nabiki further twisted, though on some level she was aware this was shooting fish in a barrel. Saotome was so pitifully easy to manipulate that if she had any shame, Nabiki thought she'd likely be ashamed of herself.

"It ain't like that!" Ranma declared.

crackle!

a little flare of purple lightning went down Ranma's arm to briefly coalesce around his hand.

Nabiki blinked. For just a moment it looked like the lightning had given her the finger?

"You've learned a new technique, Ranma-kun?" Kasumi asked.

"Sorta," hedged Ranma.

"That's my boy," said Genma. "It'll make the school all that more profitable after you've married Akane and the two of you run the dojo."

"Quite right, Saotome!" Soun agreed.

"Oh boy, that's not quite it," said Ranma.

"So what is it, Saotome?" Nabiki asked, her eyes slitted and looking angry in a manner far more threatening than Akane's tantrums.

"I kinda... found someone in a bad situation, and sorta... wanted to help out," said Ranma.

Silence as everyone waited for the fidgeting boy to finish.

"And that explains exactly what?" Nabiki said, her tone frosty.

"I kindagotagenieouttathedeal," said Ranma seeing a blunt object connecting with his head in the near future.

"Excuse me?" said Akane, wondering if that had been an insult.

"Try a deep breath," advised Kasumi, still pleased with her birthday gift and not currently imitating a space cadet.

Ranma took a deep breath. "Well, I kinda found this store that sold stuff. Kinda like that cursed antique shop that sold Kuno the Phoenix Egg. Ya remember that right?"

Nods and Kasumi remarking about the cute little birdie.

"Well, I found out someone was in a really bad situation and to get out of it she kinda got turned into a genie and now I'm... this is gonna hurt ain't it?"

"What kind of garbage fantasy are you pulling, Saotome?" Nabiki asked. "Sounds like some kind of perversion, don't you think, Akane?"

Akane nodded, frowning.

"Uhm, anyway," said Ranma, figuring he was dead anyway might as well get it over with. He reached up his sleeve and rubbed the lamp tattoo. "Come on out, Misato."

Art deco smoke seemed to pour along the surface of Ranma's skin until it erupted and formed a small whirlwind next to the dinner table. It thickened and coalesced until at last a figure knelt there.

"My link to life is in that brand,
and so my Master, what is your command?
"

"Well, this is new," allowed Nabiki.

"So, uhm, Misato - can ya wear anything different?" Ranma asked.

"Nah, I'm pretty much stuck with genie garb while I'm on the learner's permit," said Misato. "Hey, thanks for rescuing me anyway. I'll have to work on that summoning phrase though. It sounded better when I rehearsed it."

Everyone continued to stare, this time not at Ranma.

"You're a genie?" Kasumi asked. "How nice."

"Yeah. Not very powerful and I can't do wishes. I'll get better at the magic stuff the more practice I get," said Misato. "So, Master, anything you want or did you just want me to say hello?"

"You got yourself a slavegirl?!" Akane asked, taking in the outfit and all the talk about 'Master' and coming to inevitable conclusions. "YOU PERVERT!"

"I certainly hope so," said Misato. "The future I came from was dark and nasty and I could certainly use a long cuddle if nothing else."

"Not only a genie but from the future?" asked Nabiki skeptically. Actually she was thinking of ways to manipulate it so that she had the genie slave or that she could get a few pounds of gold off the genie.

"Unacceptable," growled Soun.

"Can you undo curses?" asked Genma.

Soun glared at his friend.

"I mean, unacceptable," corrected Genma.

"You mean you're calling me a liar," began Misato. "Or are you saying he should have left me in my own world's future?"

"Yes," said Soun, Nabiki, and Akane, with Genma nodding a moment later.

Misato's eye flared purple. "Then fine. See how you like it YOURSELVES!"

poof!

Ranma blinked. They were all gone?

"Whew, that was exhausting. I'll be back tomorrow, I need a rest after that," said Misato.

"Where'd they go?" Ranma asked, thinking he wasn't going to like the answer.

"Where I came from," said Misato as she vanished.

"Ah," said Ranma, vindicated.

"Oh, I suppose I should hold their dinner then," said Kasumi.
